Zombieland

Great film or...the greatest film?

Saw it tuesday and wednesday night. I think from start to finish it was brilliant, almost solely because it knew the line between horror and camp and exploited it well.

Zombieland never makes pretensions, and it knows what people find funny and it goes for it, unabashedly.

Thoughts friends?

WolfAtTheDoor 10-08-2009 03:53 PM

I can't wait to see it and I am pleased with your brief description of it. Too often do I see reviews where critics have stated that the movie has 'avoided the obvious joke', and it often makes me think, why would you want to avoid it?

Terrible Lizard 10-08-2009 04:15 PM

A pleasant brew of a film. No thought provocation, no ulterior political message, just stupid fun with a ziplock conclusion. So yes I enjoyed it.

I've only seen it once but pretty much agree with everything you said.
I also noticed that Jesse Eisenburg does the Michael Cera shtick better than Michael Cera does.

debaserr 10-08-2009 05:56 PM

Probably my favorite movie this year.

VeggieLover 10-15-2009 04:48 PM

i have friends who really enjoyed it (and have watched it a good 3 times already), so its on the top of my to-watch list.

simplephysics 10-15-2009 04:52 PM

I saw it monday night all by my lonesome, and it was freakin hilarious... Bill god damn Murray! Those 5 minutes were the best part of the entire film.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-15-2009 06:09 PM

i thought it looked stupid from the commercials but ive been hearing good things so i might end up seeing it

Farfisa 10-15-2009 06:39 PM

My friends saw it, but I still haven't gotten around to seeing it due to my unparalleled laziness. I'll watch it in three years when it's shown on tv.

333 10-15-2009 07:01 PM

It turn out to be as good as it was chalked up to be for me. Mr. Murray was brilliant, though.

simplephysics 10-15-2009 07:02 PM

Yeah I went in with really high expectations due to all the freaking hype about it, didn't quite meet them but it was still pretty funny. I'd see it over Paranormal Activity thats for sure.

I think I was expecting more blood and gore. The dialogue was alright. I could do without the love story, though. Woody, however, did not let me down.

debaserr 10-15-2009 07:12 PM

it was a comedy not so much an action flick. i liked it! i saw it early so I didn't get my expectations all screwy. not for that reason, just because I had nothing to do.

I know it was suppose to be funny, and I did laugh ... Once or twice ..

debaserr 10-15-2009 07:16 PM

i thought it was pretty funny throughout. different strokes.

WWWP 10-15-2009 09:00 PM

I loved it. I really tried not to get my hopes up too high, but it raised above the bar I set. Zombies are basically my most favorite thing next to dinosaurs.

Word to the mother****ing up.

Farfisa 10-15-2009 09:28 PM

Eww it has a love story? Wow, is that lame... I don't want to see it now.

simplephysics 10-16-2009 12:43 AM

It's a love story in the same way Superbad was a love story.

I really don't understand all this admiration for Zombieland. It wasn't anything special.

what planet...are you from?

Heres the long and short of it. Who ever directed this knew how to squeeze the juice from these actors, and unlike some of the hacks in hollywood they didn't get all the juice in one scene.

"Snowballs? SNOWBALLS? I hate coconut; not the taste, the consistency"

come on man, don't get hipster on us.

i take it you didn't like shaun of the dead either?

Roemilca 10-16-2009 03:51 PM

Best movie of the year for me. I saw it twice on the computer, and when I was ready to go see it in the theaters, I saw it twice.
Funny from start to finish. I can't wait for the rest of the series.

its a series!!!!!!!?!?!

Erika! 10-16-2009 11:50 PM

It was a hilarious movie, the best part had to be with Bill Murray. That was priceless.

I absolutely love Shaun of the Dead.

As far as Zombieland goes, it wasn't that it was a bad movie, it's just that I think it's getting high praise for a movie that I feel is only just above average. I wasn't immensely entertained. Had I not seen Shaun of the Dead before, I would have probably loved it. However I found myself constantly comparing the two, and Shaun of the Dead runs rings around it.

storymilo 10-21-2009 05:49 PM

I haven't seen either... but both are ones I've been meaning to.

I was going to see Zombieland but ended up seeing Where The Wild Things Are. Which was ok.

WolfAtTheDoor 10-21-2009 05:51 PM

Where The Wild Things Are hasn't come out yet over here but I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Is it as depressing as everybody claims it to be?

My friends said it was bad. Like no story whatsoever.

Not really to me. I actually thought the ending was happy in a way, but I could see how it could be interpreted as sad. Definitely see it if you get the chance, it's interesting and while I feel it could be better, it's certainly not bad.

I'm actually amazed at how mixed the reviews are. Some people thought it was awful, but a lot of critics loved it. I'm pretty much in the middle

It's not nearly as melodramatic as some of the reviews are making it out to be (unless you're under the age of like, 5) and quite honestly it was pretty boring and drawn out between the few scenes of actual conflict. I liked it for what it was worth, but was still a little disappointed. This is the best description I've come across "I wouldn't necessarily call it a kid movie, but rather a movie about being a kid."

For me, it seemed stuck between the two, not aimed at children, but not completely aimed at adults either.

lu galasso 10-22-2009 11:50 AM

Still want to see "Where the Wild Things Are" if for no other reason than the visuals.

Zombieland was tops, though.
