I would be lying if I said I was very excited about it though. It's more like - yeah, I'll see it when it's on the cinema.

Kinda stupid for so many people to say with so much certainty that this movie is gonna suck based on the trailer alone, people are too damn cynical nowadays, it's James goddamn Cameron. Have some enthusiasm.
IMO the trailer was great, it dosen't really tell me what the plot is but why should it? A trailers job is to get me hyped for the movie, and it did it's job. It did it well. Quote:
Why does it remind you of the Labyrinth? So far I haven't seen any singing goblins, giant codpieces or Tina Turner wigs, which would be a nice addition to any movie. Last edited by boo boo; 09-11-2009 at 04:14 PM. |

I added Labyrinth to the list simply because it looks a bit fairy-ish, but not in the dark pan's labyrinth way. Elves and bright lights in the forest shooting bows around bonfires. Legend (with Tom Cruise and Tim Curry) could've been a better fit than Labyrinth actually. It's got the lush forest visuals!

I personally do believe James Cameron will deliver considering he has been doing it for so long and has always been on the cutting edge of technology. But all said and done lets wait and watch.

The aliens do kinda remind me of characters out of an RPG game, but I also found District 9 to be a bit video gamish and that dosen't really bother me. I am impressed by the animation work done on the aliens and their expressions. And the backgrounds with the flouting mountains are amazing. If some of the ideas here seem kinda dated, I guess it's because this movie is 12 years in the making, but I like movies with an old school feel and this one might capture that despite the 3D gimmick. I usually hate 3D I'm actually looking forward to how this movie will look in 3D. |

Whilst it undeniably looks great, I find Cameron as miss as he is it. The Abyss was overlong, True Lies was just another action film to me and Titanic? *sigh*. I have heard that the technology involved is another step forward in movie making but if the story still sucks then that doesn't matter a jot.
Of course no one cannot judge the film yet but I doubt if I will be rushing to the cinema to see it.

I think True Lies is a brilliant action flick! My favourite Cameron film however is without a doubt Aliens. I consider it a fantastic piece of movie history and I'm forever thankful. Terminator 1 and 2 are also good.
Titanic is not the sort of film I like to watch, but from an objective point of view, I'd argue that it is good. If you can agree that commercial value correlates to some extent with overall quality, I think it's still the biggest money maker in movie history.

Thing is though, regardless of whether or not Avatar turns out to be any good, many of you wouldn't give half a shit about it if it were being done by someone who isn't a brand-name director like Cameron.
I did like the trailer in any case though, and although every critic and their grandma are being pretentious and saying its going to "revolutionize" the future of film-making, I'll probably see it at an IMAX theatre at some point.

I actually liked The Abyss, a lot.
As for True Lies, I mean it's stupid as all hell, but it's fun and entertaining. I agree with Tore on Titanic, it's not my kind of movie, but I appreciate it as an extremely well made piece of filmmaking, it's an old fashioned tragic romance story, and I think for what it tried to be it succeeded. IMO, his only bad film is this. ] The guy has come a loooooooooooooooong way. Last edited by boo boo; 09-12-2009 at 03:39 PM. |
