Best Decade-Comedies
Pick the decade with the best comedies.
Here's a list of my favorites: 80's- 1. Beverly Hills Cop-I used to watch this and a tape of Ghostbusters every day, I must have seen them hundreds of times. 2. Ghostbusters 3. Fast Times at Ridgmont High-best 80's gross out movie 4. The Breakfast Club 5. Neighbors-very dark obscure comedy, I like it a lot better than Animal House. 6. Trading Places 7. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 8. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids 9. This is Spinal Tap-I didn't really get this movie, I'll have to watch it again some time. Shows how much I like the 80's. 10. Good Morning Vietnam 90's- 1. There's Something About Mary-probably my favorite theater experience, the whole audience was dying laughing throughout the movie 2. Mrs. Doubtfire 3. Groundhog Day-also happens to be my b-day, wish I was stuck there, lol 4. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 5. Liar Liar-my favorite Jim Carrey movie 6. The Wedding Singer-almost picked Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore, but Sandler actually gives a very good performance here 7. American Pie-missing link between Something About Mary, and the grossout Judd Apatow movies, alright! 8. Tommy Boy-any movie involving SNL cast or crew is pretty much solid gold for laughs 9. Kingpin 10. Multiplicity 00's- 1. The 40 Year Old Virgin-Pure gold, great dialogue and improvs, also a good plot 2. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy-Will Ferrell's an a$$, a funny a$$ 3. Borat 4. Superbad 5. Knocked Up 6. Saving Silverman-Jack Black's funniest performance 7. Hot Rod-absolutely ridiculous guilty pleasure 8. School of Rock 9. Meet the Parents-Ben Stiller's arrogant a$$ knocked back to Earth by surprisingly funny DeNiro 10. Dodgeball I take the 00's because it has a lot of really silly comedies. I put 70's on the list, but don't have my own. You've got a couple Mel Brooks movies, and a couple Monty Python movies. I'd be really surprised if anyone likes the 70's.

The 80's were full of amazing low budget movies. I pick them.

2000's,
Bad Santa The Hangover (wins this competition single handed) Anchorman Superbad and who would have thought Steven Seagals films would get even worse after the new millenium. Talk about comedic gold.

Woody Allen, Monty Python, Mel Brooks- three good reasons why the 70's had their fair share of top comedic films.

The 70's owns based on blazing saddles alone.
"go do the voodoo that you do so well" I remember mrs. doubtfire, and I remember crying at the end of it. I'm surprised you wouldn't add caddyshack for the 80's. As far the 00's go, I'm not sure how I feel how about the seth judd apatow/seth rogen movies--the comedy seems a little pedestrian and lacking in clever dialogue--almost like the mere prescence of seth rogen is supposed to make it funny. Anchorman was awesome though. |

I honestly have't really watched any seventies comedies so I can't say anything about this decade.
I havent watched MANY 80's comedies, but what I have seen is pretty good like Ferris Buellers Day Off, but I just haven't seen enough to pick this decade Liar, Liar alone won the competition for me. Jim Carrey can make me laugh just by seeing one of his expressions. I love in that movie when his client (blonde woman with weird voice) comes out of the courthouse with her lover and Jim Carrey sees the two of them and he gags. God I laugh so hard when I see that. Anthing but the 00's. That sort of comedy just doesn't really suit my tastes. Alot of crudeness without alot of substance. Plus I hate the very sight of Will Ferrell. The only comedy I like from this decade is Austin Powers Goldmember. Now that show is clever enough to actually make me laugh. And technically the Austin Powers idea was from the 90's |

Imo, the best kind of comedy is when everyone in the scene is on the verge of bursting out laughing. Often the funniest things in comedies are not the lines themselves but people's reactions to lines. Ben Stiller makes good use of this. Obviously, they edit the movies by splicing together many takes, so you can't really tell the person was fighting back tears to keep from laughing in the scene. Just the air of humor on a set translates well to the audience, and you can tell when they're having a good time making it. Especially in satire they usually go way over the top with improv, like Will Ferrell in Anchorman, but most of it was so damn funny it had to stay in the final cut.
