Console Decision (X-Box 360/PS3)

I suppose this is where I would post this question or concern.

Yesterday, after much deliberation, my parents decided to buy an X-Box 360 for me as a gift.

They have yet to buy it, but I'm wondering what people would recommend.

Personally, I'm in love with the 360, but I grew up on PS and Nintendo.

xD

I definitely don't want the Wii, but what would other gamers recommend?

boo boo 06-28-2009 11:06 AM

The Wii.

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 11:07 AM

You're no help. T.T

LoathsomePete 06-28-2009 11:17 AM

I use to think that the Xbox 360 was the best out of the three, but now that the PS3 has a solid foundation and a decent amount of exclusive titles I think it'll pull through and overtake the 360 in the end. I'm starting to feel the buyers remorse because I'm already on my second 360 and I've been looking at some of the games on the PS3 with envious eyes.

Chaos 06-28-2009 11:18 AM

IMO, all new consoles are overrated junk.

But I would have got a Wii.

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 11:18 AM

That's what I feel like.

I know Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out... Ugh, now I'm even more undecided. xD

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 11:19 AM

Okay let me say this again.

I DEFINITELY do not want the Wii.

Thank you, come again.

FaSho 06-28-2009 11:24 AM

360 is win. PS3 is great, but most of the good games for it are on the 360 as well, plus Halo 3.

It's just a shame the 360 occasionally pisses itself and dies.

FaSho 06-28-2009 03:13 PM

Yeah happened to me...they'll send you a new one though and you get to keep your hardrive so I dn't see what the big deal is about it.

On the contrary, you want a video game console, I'm recommending one.

Yet you're torn between getting an overpriced paperweight with no games for it and one that does have games but doesn't actually work most of the time.

Alfred 06-28-2009 03:43 PM

PS3, no doubt.

As for "no games", well:

LittleBigPlanet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Killzone 2
Resistance 1 & 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Warhawk
inFAMOUS
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Flower
Motorstorm

and all of the precious multiplatform titles like Bioshock, Call Of Duty, GTA IV, Burnout: Paradise, Fallout 3, Dead Space, etc, plus online is free and it won't screw itsself like the Xbox 360 loves to do.

Super Mario Galaxy is a reason and a half to own a Wii though.

Who the hell needs a Wii when 360 has Project Natal coming out which pretty much what the wii has going for it minus the controller.

Ive had mine for 2 years and never had any problems with it.

Anyway Xbox 360 is the right way to go, Xbox Live is great especially the netflix thing.

Err. The first party games?

But of course the games don't matter, it's only a f*cking console that plays video games. The technical quirks, THAT is what matters.

The wiimote worked great on games like Galaxy and TP but NOOOOOOO it was just a dumb novelty that would die out quickly, no real gamer would want to go through all the trouble of MOVING THEIR ARMS when they could just use a regular controller, the Xbox fanboys would say. But yeah, now that 360 is gonna have motion sensing controls it's not a novelty at all.

And when 360 gets logjammed with awful 3rd party shovelware, then of course it wont be Microsoft's fault.

Such hypocrisy.

Alfred 06-28-2009 06:42 PM

Exactly.

I still say that the Wii remote + nunchuk is the best way to control an FPS.

boo boo 06-28-2009 06:44 PM

Only Wii game I've used the wiimote for and thought a regular controller would work better was Brawl, which was intended to be played with a GC controller anyway.

Generally, I have nothing against the 360, it has some pretty sweet games. If I talk sh*t about it, it's just in retaliation to all the 360 fanboys who've made an obsessive habit out of badmouthing the Wii.

It's lame that people have to pick one console and just say the others have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I mean, can you believe there's still Super Nintendo fanboys who say the Sega Genesis didn't have one good game for it? It's been almost 20 years and people are still fighting over that. It's f*cking ridiculous.

Alfred 06-28-2009 06:54 PM

The same people that think that the only way Mario should be played is in 2D?

Anyways, with Brawl, I play with the Classic Controller. Dual analog definitely works better for it.

Astronomer 06-28-2009 07:06 PM

I'd recommend the X-Box because it's cheaper for what you get and there are more games available. I've got a Wii and my housemate has an X-Box. Wii is awesome because I grew up with Nintendo also - I bought a classic controller and downloaded all the old school games :)

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 08:19 PM

I grew up with Nintendo as well as Playstation.

But I highly dislike the Wii, BRYAN.

I would love to own the 360 only because I have wanted it for a while and I'm in love with Halo 3 and Gears of War 2. But otherwise, I don't know much about it.

As for the PS3, I know how amazing the graphics are, but in two years, my friend will be moving in with me, and she has a PS3... that isn't much of a reason, either.

So either way, I have the pros and cons. I enjoy X-Box and PS3. -_-

Not Wii.

See my dilemma?

Astronomer 06-28-2009 08:20 PM

^ Get an XBox then! Halo 3 is awesome.

Haha me too. Well, get an X-Box so you can practice your skilz :) Seriously, my roommate has an X-Box and currently I think it's better value than the PS3. There are just so many good games out there.

True. The graphics and controls are just a tad awkward, and of course I'm used to those of the PS3.

Agh, what a horrid idea to ask a bunch of opinionated members which of two warring company's products to buy. =P

I suppose I'll do some more research on the benefits- games, memory, avalability and such..

The biggest thing you have to ask yourself is "Do you do multiplayer gaming?" I use to play Counter-Strike religiously but I finally gave it up as I felt I never got any better and I was essentially target practice for players who had reached a skill level I could never achieve (or hackers). If multiplayer doesn't do it for you then buying a 360 for Halo 3 is a pretty foolish move as the single player is only about 8-10 hours long.

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 08:35 PM

I would enjoy multiplayer. I've played it in the past, I just wasn't good enough to compare.

If I get the X-Box, though, I will definitely be playing a lot of multiplayer games/.

Also it's pretty crappy, the story line is horrible but the multiplayer more than makes up for that. Also since youre a girl (I assume you are unless boo boo is gay) and youre going to be playing online I think it's only fair to warn guys will hit on you, ALOT. Honestly you'd think some of these poeple have never interacted with a person of the opposite sex before, which probably true apart form their mother.

I've played before. I'm a female.

I've had too many rape threats on the game to be counted. I can deal with that.

I can't deal with m parents spending money on a console for which I won't buy games.

Halo 3 and GW2 can probably only hold me for so long.

And wait Boo Boo? xD

Hahahaha so true! This has happened to me before on X-Box Live. That, or they will think you're a pre-pubescent boy.

Arya Stark 06-28-2009 09:36 PM

I love when guys are like, "DUDE, A GIRL PLAYING HALO?!"

Here's one of the reasons why I don't play online with strangers, atleast not with voice chat because people tend to be complete douche bags. People think because youre 800 miles away from who youre playing with it's ok to say whatever you want to them. So I tend to play in private party's with people I know. But the whole hitting on girls thing I find extremely annoying especially if we're on the same team and my teammates are too distracted by the fact that a girl plays video game to bother winning.

I think it's funny. I try really hard to focus on the game, but I talk on voice chat, because I find it highly amusing when people get distracted by me.

I do know what you mean, though. I once played Halo with my best friend's boyfriend, who's a very good friend of mine as well. But he found it funny to run around killing me instead of move on with the game. And he's really, REALLY good, so there was no chance of me getting passed that.

Astronomer 06-28-2009 10:08 PM

Whenever I play online as soon as I talk, some person from the US will call me a 'stupid Brit' and continue douche-like behaviour and racial slurs. I'm not even British. So yeah, playing online with strangers is annoying and aggrevating.

hahhaha Ive played with a group of Irishmen before who called me a 'American twat' but the only thing worse than being insulted because of your nationality is being paired with people who don't even speak the same language as you. Ive been teamed up with people from Russia, France, and Mexico I don't know why the Halo 3 server would do that to me on matchs were team communication is very important.

Far Beyond Driven 06-28-2009 11:39 PM

Ah man playing online is always funny. My psn id is ElDiablo4 so all these mexican guys always add me on their friends list and talk to me in spanish. It's pretty cool, me and my friends always get a kick out of playing with some kid who doesn't even speak the same language as us. It makes the game more challenging and it's pretty neat when you somehow understand eachother, haha.

Oh and as for the question of which console is better, Xbox 360 or PS3? It's actually pretty hard to say, each system has their own strong points and weak points. The 360 does have better online but it costs money. The 360 is relatively cheap but it has a tendency to malfunction and break. The PS3 is more powerful and is capable of higher output in terms of graphics and resolution. Each system has their own share of good exclusives and, really, they're both good consoles. I'd buy 'em both but it costs too much money so for now i'll stick with my PS3.

btw, i typed this up on my PS3 :D

It was no easy feat my friend.

djchameleon 06-29-2009 12:21 AM

the best way to make this decision is to go through the exclusives for each system and whichever one has more exclusives that you want over the other then that should be your choice. I personally like ps3 better. The main reason I got my ps3 was for FF13 and they ended up giving it away to Xbox....greedy bastards...but anyways....now I also have a blu-ray player so I don't mind it.

Arya Stark 06-29-2009 04:25 PM

I kind of tried to establish a definite decision the way I established which colleges I would apply to.

If I had a difficult time getting around on the site, there was something wrong. I'm online fairly often and I am usually able to find what I need.

The X-Box site was kind of obnoxious. I didn't find what I wanted and it was difficult to get around.

The PS site was easier to search and therefore made me feel more comfortable.

I'm still not sure, but the PS3 is winning my heart now, which sucks in a way cause I really wanted the 360.

Any other ways you think I should try to establish a choice?

Should probably get the 360 then.

I got one last week actually and i am very happy with it. Fallout 3 looks to be a winner.

Even though I have feelings for another console?
