I have a strange taste in films, my top three are The Truman Show (which I love, for some reason), 2001 and The Great Escape

Jackie Brown (1997)

Tarantino at his best

Haha what makes you think that? Jackie brown is a good film but I think it's his worst because it's just doesn't stack up to his other multielemental powerhouse films like reservoir dogs or pulp fiction.

I hear what you're saying but I think Jackie Brown has got more to get your teeth into, if you know what I mean. The story is linear, so it draws you in more, the performances are subtle but impressive, and the soundtrack is less intrusive. Basically, the movie has a more laidback vibe because Tarantino isn't trying as hard to impress the audience...which is probably why everyone hated it when it was released!

I would argue that a non linear plot draws you in more because of the fact that there are usually unanswered questions or interesting answers to questions you didn't even have that make you excited for more. The soundtrack and acting of course are pretty much as good as any of his other films (Pulp Fiction soundtrack is better though). It's just a slump I'd rather not have seen in his career. It is a good film, but it's not a good Tarantino film, if you get what I'm saying.

I can see that I'm not preaching to the converted!

Can we both just agree that the Kill Bill films were awful?

I guess I like to view him as an auteur rather than a regular director with range, tbh. I like the Kill Bill series because of how it makes fun of itself and the genre. I wouldn't say that Jackie Brown is better, but if I had a choice on whether to watch either of the Kill Bill films or Jackie Brown, I'd pick the latter. This is mostly because of content and that I don't like cheese so much in my film. What do you think of Tarantino's other work?
