Solid enough list, Get Carter 1971 or 2000?

James 05-13-2010 03:48 PM

1971 No question

TheCunningStunt 05-13-2010 03:51 PM

Not seen the remake, I expected it to be shit. Sylvester Stallone can't act, I'll check on RT to see what it got.

..12% now I know why you said no question.

James 05-13-2010 03:53 PM

Yeah it sucks the original is excellent even though it was made 40 years ago Caine's acting is still top notch.

Some films just stand the test of time, A Clockwork Orange for example, when I watched that I felt like it was made modern day, just set in 1971.

James 05-13-2010 03:58 PM

Yes that is another example

Alright movie, though the book was better as always.

Bateman makes Dexter and Hannbial look sane put together.

My all time favourite film, that no other movie has yet rivaled, is:
Stalker, by Tarkovsky

Honorable mentions:
The Clone Returns Home, by Kanji Nakajima
Werckmeister Harmonies, by Béla Tarr
Angel's Egg, by Mamoru Ooshi
Spirited Away, by Miyazaki

stalker is a wonderful film. i hesitate to name a favorite tarkovsky but it wavers between that, andrei rublev, and nostalghia.

Chainsawkitten 05-16-2010 12:27 PM

All Tarkovsky movies are excellent but to me there's something special about Stalker.

Have you seen any Béla Tarr? I find him to be quite similar in style, although a bit slower. If you couldn't make it out of my list, the one film by him I recommend the most is Werckmeister Harmonies [Werckmeister Harmoniák].
