Latest Star Trek Film
Great movie! Tons of references to the previous installments and TV series and yet it takes on a brilliant new direction. Anyone seen it yet?
|
Yeah I wanna see it, I'm not a hardcore trekkie. But Next Generation has always been one of my favorite programs.
|
I'm no trekkie either. I like two or three of the movies (with the older casts), but that's about it. This latest one should at the very least be an interesting watch though.
|
It's a great space opera and the way a sci-fi prequel SHOULD be made.
|
Well I'd never seen Star Trek before I saw the movie, but I still found it enjoyable.
Though I do think they hackneyed Chekhov's accent by taking every possible opportunity to make fun of it, even if "ewacuate the wulcan" is an amusing line. I really didn't expect to see any girls there, but they made up a surprising proportion of the audience. |
OMG...I love this movie! They did a great job casting it, especially Spock and Kirk, but the real stand out for me was Karl Urban. His "Bones" was just amazing, the mannerisms and the way he talked, his cynical attitude...it was spot on. And Simon Pegg did a great job as Scotty. The special effects were great too, but they didn't take away from the story like I thought they might, and I love how they used original sound effects from the old series. The shuttles and the phasers looked old school too. ***SLIGHT SPOILER HERE*** The only thing I didn't like was the Spock/Uhura thing...wtf? I mean, I know Star Trek is notorious for pursuing "alternate time line and/or reality" stories, so it's not out of the realm of possibility, but still. It just didn't sit right with me at all.

HA yeah that was a little odd, but I think nessicary for the story. We had to see plain and clear that Spock was capable of a human emotion such as love.

I've never watched Star Trek but I still want to see the film

Quote:
The casting seemed to almost be a joke, the new trend of adding stupid wisecracks was continued from beginning to end. Basically this movie was all about flash and like most modern movies lacked severely in the storyline department. Now I have seen nearly every, if not all episodes of every Star Trek and boy was I dissapionted. |
to be fair that's probably what put you off it in the first place.
any trekkie's gonna have shit to pick with a new Star Trek film directed by someone who never wanted there to be a lasting attachment to the aforementioned series. there isn't any mass appeal to a movie built off the classic Star Trek structure. it's not about the storyline because most people aren't even acquainted with the original series. what i find is impressive is that they managed to create a Star Trek film which actually has some appeal to the general audience. |
