GameCube Games on the Wii

So I got a Wii a few months ago and since I learned that it will also play GameCube games I've been thinking of picking up few of those because they seem to be pretty cheap these days. The thing is I wasn't paying attention to video games at all before I got the Wii so I have no clue what the worthwhile GameCube titles are. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, has anyone here played GameCube games on a Wii? Aside from buying one of the GameCube controllers is there anything in particular I need to do or need to know about? Or is it just a simple as putting the disc in and playing?

my sister's b/f borrowed a pile of my GC games for his Wii, i have no idea how you play them with those remote control things though....

It depends what genre you prefer I guess but i'll recommend the obvious - Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker (particularly if you can get the one which had Ocarina of Time on the second disc). Still looks and plays great, as do all the classic Gamecube games really, although I would say that as I am lagging behind a generation and then some.

What are some of the classic GameCube games? I'm lagging so many generations behind that the most recent console I owned before the Wii was the original NES.

IGN: The Top 25 GameCube Games of All Time

well there are lists all over the place with the same recurring titles, but as far as I know many of the Gamecube classics are Nintendo franchise titles that have been updated and improved on the Wii (e.g. why get Mario Sunshine when you now have Mario Galaxy which is meant to be the proverbial shit?)... but I mean if you haven't played anything since the NES then it doesn't matter, the last GC games I played obsessively were Mario Kart: Double Dash and Ikaruga. Oh, and also check youtube for any games you are considering because there is nothing you can't see footage of on there

Just wait 'til BooBoo gets on he'll have recommendations coming out of his ears

All I know is that 007 Nightfire has awesome splitscreen multiplayer.

That's funny I was actually just looking at that exact list before I made this thread. :)

Thanks for the suggestions and the YouTube idea. I'll check them out.

I would tell you to get Metroid Prime, but since you already have the Wii, you should just get Metroid Prime 3. It's a monster of a game and my favorite on the system. I've been playing for 12 hours and I'm only done 23% of the game. However, I'm a lot farther than that in the story. Be prepared to play hours at a time if you get it, or any of them, for that matter.

I've definitely been thinking of checking out one of the Metroid Prime games. I was a pretty big fan of the original Metroid way back in the day, and man that game had some the best music of any NES game. Not that that's saying much considering how crappy video game music was back then but the Metroid music was almost experimental sounding, I always thought that was pretty cool.

Metroid Prime 3 is amazing.

If you can get your hands on Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube, do it. It's incredible.

Metroid Prime is pretty much a first person shooter version of the original Metroid games but with a lot of puzzles and stuff. Boss battles are pretty epic.
