Wii appreciation thread

Appreciation thread, remember that part of the title please.

Underrated like hell right now? I say yes.

Finally beaten Galaxy 100%

Alfred 03-05-2009 02:31 PM

Wii is the best console to play FPS games on. Too bad there's like, three good FPS games on it. Can't wait for The Conduit though.

And then there's Super Mario Galaxy, I only have 29 stars on it. :(

Janszoon 03-05-2009 02:37 PM

I don't have much to compare it to but I like my Wii. It's definitely better than the other two consoles I own which are a NES and an Atari 2600.

boo boo 03-05-2009 02:51 PM

The ones that are a real bitch to get are the prankster comets.

These are the hardest ones to get.

The cosmic Luigi races: The Mario ones are easy, but Luigi's are pretty hard.

Sling pod galaxy: This one is fustrating, Mario gets on these rubbery things called sling pods and you have to send him flying to another one, but it's very easy to miss and fall to your doom, too make matters worse you have to watch out for cannons and flamethrowers.

Purple coin stages: The toy time galaxy one may be the hardest, it's a doozy, you have to collect 100 purple coins in a time limit and all the platforms either disapear once you step on them or they tip over. The ghostly galaxy one is also hella hard.

Loopdeswoop galaxy: My god, this is the second manta ray racing stage and it's nearly impossible, the course is a monster, I must have fallen to my doom hundreds of times.

The daredevil run stages: Especially the melty molten galaxy, you have to go through the whole stage with one bar of health.

The NES is awesome man.

Probably has the greatest quantity of good games of any console.

Alfred 03-05-2009 02:54 PM

Yeah, the prankster comet on the Beach Bowl Galaxy is incredbily hard, and I always seem to fall into the black hole on the prankster comet in the Space Junk Galaxy.

My best accomplishments in the game are probably Rocky Road and Bowser's Star Reactor thing, the latter caused me much grief, and the former I played many many times.

Ratatouille is such a killer game, even if it is for 5 year olds.

Classic, yes, but terribly quaint.

Yeah but it gets old after playing it for 20 years.

Technically yes.

But it's still my second favorite console after the Genesis.

Older games have the benefit of being much much harder than modern games, so as a result they last longer, and because newer games lack top scores they have less replay value.

Hah, that should be my next entry in the things that piss me off about video games thread.

Alfred 03-05-2009 08:31 PM

Hey boo boo, what do you make of the new Wii games of '09? I'm talking The Conduit, Cursed Mountain, Sadness. I'm really curious about Sadness.

boo boo 03-05-2009 08:41 PM

Haven't heard of the latter two, who's developing/publishing them?

Alfred 03-05-2009 09:09 PM

Well, that's not surprising, the details are pretty murky, and I don't think they even have a release date set at the moment.

Sadness doesn't have a publisher as of yet, it's being developed by some obscure Polish developer. It's sounding pretty cool, kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure novel in the form of a survival horror video game. It's gonna be black and white.

Cursed Mountain is being published by some company called Deep Silver?

But what are you expecting from The Conduit?

Alfred 03-10-2009 02:51 PM

MadWorld came out today and got positive reviews (currently holds 87% at Metacritic). Looks like we have the first great Wii game of 09.

Feign 03-12-2009 10:14 PM

The 'Sadness' artwork looks fantastic! (and that's about all I can say unless I missed any gameplay footage.) I honestly hope it comes out.

Cursed Mountain is going to be such a fantastic game, and even though I'm sure I can guess the plot, it still looks to have a great story, since that seems to be the main focus.

Piss Me Off 03-13-2009 10:23 AM

God i miss my Wii. Madworld looks great, i love design like that.

I thought Sadness had been axed long ago so i'm glad it's still around, definitely sounds intriguing.

Wii Appreciation; as follows,

I love our Wii, :thumb:we just got the 3rd and 4th remotes and its a lot funner when you don't have to share, It's brought our family together alot lately.;) I give it a 8.5 for all the cool sports, Mario Kart got old, and i haven't done any other game except Indiana Jones Leggo and that is cool, just no one wants to play it with me, my girls love the wii fit and shaun white snowboarding.:D

pahuuuta 03-13-2009 12:31 PM

the wii is really fun when it comes to the sports actually i agree

Alfred 03-13-2009 06:30 PM

Meh, I prefer the larger scale plot-based titles for the Wii, like Metroid Prime 3, MOH:H2, Super Mario Galaxy, and I'm addicted to COD:WaW Multiplayer.

Casual games can be fun with friends, but I haven't played them in months.

LoathsomePete 03-16-2009 09:54 PM

Apart from Wii Fit and No More Heroes I haven't really found anything that strikes my fancy. However I do like the fact that more original games are coming out for it, it's not all Gears of Nathan Drakes Killzone malarkey.

I feel ya. I hate this new pereception of "hardcore gaming". It seems that the requirement for an AAA "hardcore game" is an ESRB rating of Mature with the content descriptors: "Blood and Gore", "Intense Violence", and a little "Strong Language" doesn't hurt either.

I just wish that there were more unique or original games, it seems like everything is either a sequel, prequel, remake, or sports game. I think the biggest issue is multiplayer, more people will buy a game, not for the story, but for the multiplayer aspect. I use to be a big CS gamer, but eventually gave it up when it just seemed like I was never getting better no matter how many hours I logged on. I'm in no way saying that all sequels are bad, some of my favourite games as of late have been sequels (GTA 4, Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4, etc.) but I just want something new to play and I don't feel that the xbox 360 or PS3 are the best consoles for that desire.

they should have more original games but you gotta admit the sports games that they do have for it are pretty sick

if you like sports then yes, but I really don't care at all about sports so I don't even notice them.

pahuuuta 03-17-2009 12:33 PM

if your playing with friends than its fun. if your playing by yourself it sucks

Farfisa 03-21-2009 05:11 PM

I do have a wii but, it's more so my family's console. I do have Twilight Princess for it though. Why don't game developers make more games like that huh? I loved everything about that game.

Sparky 03-26-2009 07:36 PM

madworld looks sick, if i still had my wii i would definitely pick that up

Alfred 03-26-2009 07:37 PM

New Conduit gameplay videos are epic!

News: GDC 2009 Media: Two New Videos of The Conduit Surface - Kombo.com

I'm so stoked for this game.

JCam 03-26-2009 11:16 PM

Had a blast on the weekend playing Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party - it's pretty creative how they've integrated the Wii Fit balance board into playing with your rear... Of course, I think part of the hilarity was watching people dance while watching them watching the 100" projection on my friend's wall...

rjb 03-27-2009 07:01 PM

I have the original rayman raving rabbids but I found it got boring quickly especially once you've played the mini games a few times. Though I cannot wait for the Conduit, and I aim to pick up House of the Dead: Overkill and Madworld once I get a bit of cash.

Alfred 03-27-2009 07:10 PM

2009 seems to be the year that third-party developers focus on the "core gaming".

LoathsomePete 03-27-2009 07:19 PM

Just wondering if anyone has the Wii Fit and what their opinions on it are. I've been contemplating getting one, but they may as well be made out of atimantium for how easy they are to get a hold of here.

That's the price you pay for being so quick to write The Wii off.

I said it before, that it would take time but eventually some big games were gonna show up for The Wii and people need to shut up before they make themselves look stupid. And looking at the upcoming games this year I was absolutely right.

Piss Me Off 03-28-2009 07:10 AM

http://feartotread.com/wp-content/up...verkill-ca.jpg

Maybe don't buy it but i really recommend a rent of this, i would best describe it as Planet Terror in a video game. Stupid, sweary and bloody.

Alfred 03-28-2009 12:31 PM

Yeah, if I didn't have younger siblings I would really want that game. Looks fun.

boo boo 03-28-2009 08:23 PM

It's good to see Sega becoming a power player again. Now if only they can bring some life back to their number one franchise.

This is the era of the comeback, If Robert Downey Jr and Mickey Rourke can find work again, then surely The Hedgehog can get out of his current slump.

I don't regret selling my wii, not one bit.

Yes Mad world looks great, but there was quite a drought after smash bros brawl..

The Conduit also looks okay, but besides that they're isnt all that much else that interests me.

Alfred 03-28-2009 10:30 PM

I haven't played all of them, but based on the general consensus, here is a list of good Wii games.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Medal Of Honor: Heroes 2
Madworld
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The House Of The Dead: Overkill
No More Heroes
Blast Works
Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wario Land: Shake It!
de Blob
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Okami
Super Paper Mario
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
World Of Goo
Megaman 9

as well as some ports and multiplatform games that I didn't mention

boo boo 03-28-2009 11:39 PM

LostWinds looks really neat.

I thought it was hilarious how the Wii stole the last good exclusives the PS2 had, Bully and Okami, and made them better.

The only thing better would be if Miyamoto personally kicked Kazuo Hirai in the nuts.
