They are two completely different movies with different moral stances.
AN is from the point of view of one man, while SPR is from the point of view of a group. AN has an anti war stance and SPR has a patriotic one, however they both have a great, disorienting feel that puts you in the right state of mind to see things from a soldier's point of view, well, no war movie will EVER give you a real idea of what it's like, but I think these come close better than any other war movie.
