I did say I didn't have issue with it personally. I like Friends. However it is not the greatest sitcom ever made, it's not even the greatest American sitcom ever made and my point is some people really would have had you believe that Friends was that good.

Besides that, can somebody explain to why it is funny and not one of the most over-rated shows ever? |

if you're just not that kind of person, then you're not. it's not rocket science. the show is only overrated to the people who really don't get it.

And yes, it all comes down to personal taste. Whereas it is true, at least in my eyes, that a lot of people just never really got Seinfeld it is also true that a lot of people do get it and just don't like it. It's the same with anything really. I like Seinfeld because it was daring, it pushed a lot more buttons than a lot of sitcoms of the time, it was clever as it was more often than not done in such a way that they could slip it past the network or present in such a way that it was allowed to air. They had brilliant scripts, a perfect balance between funny dialogue and physical comedy and they both tried and suceeded to seperate themselves from some of the more traditional half hour sitcoms that were big at the time. They went up either before or after Cheers for years which offers a fine example of that in comparison. Not saying people arent allowed to dislike it or disagree with me but they are a few of many reasons why you'll never find me putting Seinfeld in this thread. |

Because of Seinfeld? I have never heard that before but then again being English thats not so surprising but does Seinfeld really have anything to do with that? I guess I just don't see how the two are related.

So you are not going to watch a show because of a sterotype? If the fact that they are Jewish doesn't make it any more funny than it actually is, that doesn't make the show less funny.
But I understand, not everybody has the same sense of humor. |

But I was commenting on the post that claimed, or at least appeared to claim, that it was Seinfeld that started that supposed trend. Hence, I am simply wondering why the fact that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are jewish had anything to do with anything.
