Not a lot of highly praised movies that I hate.
But I do have to say Natural Born Killers is without a doubt the most awful film to ever gain a cult following.
And The Piano, Moulin Rouge, Shakesphere in Love, Out of Africa, Chocolat and Erin Brocavich are the worst films to ever get an Oscar nod for best picture.

#1. The Searchers.
This is usually quoted as being the finest Western ever made with both Spielberg and Scorsese eulogising over the superb framing, the seemingly simplistic but classic story of one man's search for divinity and the performances.
No it's boring as fuck. It's inherently racist. John Wayne is as wooden as ever and I would argue that it's near impossible to not make a good looking film considering the huge canvas of Utah. I don't like any of the characters either. There is no denying that it has been influential but that still doesn't mean that I should enjoy it. :(

I love that film and it's indeed my favorite film.
I think you missed the point of the film completely.
No one is denying that Wayne's character is racist, and Ford obviously dosen't depict his racism in a very positive light. He's meant to be an anti-hero, rather than a hero. It may be Wayne's best role, it's like a subtle parody of a John Wayne role.
