I really don't get any of the praise this film gets. Yes, the ending was surprising, but the rest of the film was incredibly mediocre.

I have a few friends that are big fans of this and a few that hate it dearly. I thought it was good at first but the second time I watched it I fell asleep pretty quickly. It's really just a two hour exercise in characterization.

One of mine...

The Untouchables

Yeah, it's a nice concept to make a film about but it was a pretty poor showing of it. There's about ninety nine ways you can make this film without ruining it but the family conflict thing pretty much killed it for me.

Awesome gun-fights and thematic lines however. De Palma has always had style in his works.

I haven't seen the movie in a while, so I'll assume what you said about it being about abolishing debt is true. That aside, Tyler Durden's final goal WAS to create an anarchistic wasteland, because the main character, as you said, couldn't cope with the world as we know it. Perhaps the buildings were just the beginning of a series of plots to make the whole world equal before de-civilizing them.

The cult was always destined to reach their final goal and cease existing for lack of a purpose or fail and just end.

Great movie as well!

Dances With Wolves

This is by far the most boring movie I've ever seen, and no matter how hard I try I can not get into it at all. Kevin Costner is an awful actor/director. How this won all its Oscars is beyond me, especially beating Goodfellas for Best Picture. Some of this stems from my hatred of Kevin Costner, but still, this is an objectively terrible and overrated film.

Unusual Suspects is good but it is pretty overrated. It's by no means a ****

*Sigh*

Not only is this one of my favorite movies, I actually think it deserved to beat Goodfellas, though Scorsese should have at least won best director. But as a director I actually think Coster did an excellent job. The cinematography, music, supporting cast and the overall story and period is great. The weakest element of the film is Costers acting which is not bad, just servicable rather than outstanding. It's a slow going film, but the most boring film ever? To me the bufallo scene, the showdown with the and Pawnee's and the confederates is some of the most exciting pieces of filmmaking I've seen.

Amd while on the topic of boring, Have you ever seen a Syndey Pollack movie in your life?

So I think you're being incredibly biased, though maybe I am too because I'm an injun.

Speaking of overrated movies, Goodfellas is by far the most overrated mob movie I've ever seen. It had a handful of great scenes but Scorsese ruined it by completely losing the thread in the last half hour or so.

I know there's going to be a lot of disagreement here, but I'd have to go with Fight Club. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie...I'm just not convinced that it's the greatest film of all time, as many people seem to think.

boo boo 02-25-2009 09:16 PM

I love Goodfellas.

It may be overrated if only because everyone thinks it deserves best picture and I stand by Dances getting it.

I think it's overrated because it's a mediocre movie that's widely considered to be one of the greatest mob movies ever made.

I do like Dances With Wolves a lot though.
