just because you didn't know mumbai was in india before you saw it :p:. It's not a massively patronizing film but you know the industry types got big kicks to nominate something so quaintly exotic and wordly. The film was just meh, watch some Satyajit Ray instead

I'm sorry, but I think it's always annoying and patrionizing when new movies are compared to old ones, when younger filmmakers are compared to older ones.

"Quintin Tarantino ain't bad but he's no Sam Pekinpah"

"Tim Burton ain't bad but he's no Fritz Lang"

Well of course not. Nobody is someone else, so I really hate that phrase "he's no ____"

Danny Boyle is a very talented modern director, I haven't seen Slumdog but I do have high expectations for it, more because it's one of his films than because of the amount of hype surrounding it.

I'm eager to see all of these films, even the much disliked Button.

But I'm drawing the line with The Reader. As soon as I heard "from the director of The Hours" I became completely uninterested.

Yes, skip The Reader if you can, it was painful. Kate Winslet was nothing special either. She was so much better in Revolutionary Road. I don't understand how that movie got snubbed so badly.

whaddya mean kate winslet did fine, it was the second act where that movie fell off and turned into any holocaust drama

Was Changeling up for anything? That deserved some recognition

Yeah Kate Winslet did fine, but I don't think it was an Oscar-worthy performance especially considering her performance in Revolutionary Road. And Angelina Jolie was nominated for Changeling.

Denzel's a good actor, maybe a little linear, but good. Compared to Penn though? There's no comparison, simply because of Penn's range.
