I'm sorry, but I think it's always annoying and patrionizing when new movies are compared to old ones, when younger filmmakers are compared to older ones.
"Quintin Tarantino ain't bad but he's no Sam Pekinpah" "Tim Burton ain't bad but he's no Fritz Lang" Well of course not. Nobody is someone else, so I really hate that phrase "he's no ____" Danny Boyle is a very talented modern director, I haven't seen Slumdog but I do have high expectations for it, more because it's one of his films than because of the amount of hype surrounding it. I'm eager to see all of these films, even the much disliked Button. But I'm drawing the line with The Reader. As soon as I heard "from the director of The Hours" I became completely uninterested. |

seriously he needs to get them sorted out, they look like they're from a joke shop |
I thought Revolutionary road was a watchable but mediocre and forgettable melodrama. Plus both Winslet and DiCaprio couldn't hold a candle to Michael Shannon who stole every scene he was in.

I've only seen American beauty which was ten times the film RR is, but I figure that was more down to Alan Ball than Mendes. (It's Sam btw).

Mendes did an excellent job with Road to Perdition too. |
