Yeah, I think the original is better (I saw it before the remake though but I think the lead is just better/more believable) but I think they're similar enough so I take it the effect won't be quite the same if you already know the basic plot. It's definitely "moodier" which I like.

I use imbd, but my ratings are all over the place.

I use a copybook for my lists.

Anyway, I had watched Vanilla Sky, before watching the original or even hearing about Amenabar. I felt the shots were the same, not much difference directing-wise (though Amenabar is the director of the original but only the writer of the remake). I prefer Eduardo Noriega to Tom Cruise any day, the actor that has also starred in Amenabar's Thesis. Even Penelope Cruz is in both, playing the same exact role. However the original had a much stronger impact on myself, even though I already knew the ending. It was maybe more genuine, well as you said, "more believable".

Abre Los Ojos, is much better than its remake Vanilla Sky btw.. and of course Mar Adentro, can surely get a spot as one of my favourite 10 movies of all times.

Now about Agora, still no one I know saw it. It was kind of disappointing knowing that they modified some of the Historical facts, but knowing this man's perfect filmography, I'll surely be watching it. I'll try to go this week, and reply to both of you about it.
You did indeed, I was just about to scour my profile wall for that list.
Now if we're quite done here, I have some films to watch before Monday's drudgery. =P Cheers guys

^ Glad to be of any help.

Now another film I remembered, and that I'm sure I won't be watching any soon, as it will surely get banned in here. It's the Golden Lion winner of this year's Venice Film Festival, the Israeli movie Lebanon. I'm pretty sure it's going to be nominated as one of the best Foreign movies at the Oscars, like the two previous years, with the other two Israeli movies talking about broken soldiers in the land of Lebanon (Beaufort and Waltz with Bashir).
It does look like a good war movie, but I feel that the Israelis are kinda milking this subject a bit too much. Like 3 years in a row, and 2 (soon to be 3) Oscar nominations, though Waltz with Bashir was one of my favourite 2008 films.
I still hope this one will also be good, and with no secret political agenda.

I can't seem to find any poster of the film, but I got some shots:

Looking forward to that. I enjoyed both Beaufort and especially Bashir...what was the reaction to Waltz with Bashir in your country?

It was banned, so we all got it as a copy DVD (as usual). I found it to be the most objectif Israeli-Lebanese war depiction. The people that are pro-Lebanese Forces, felt it was meant to be against them. But as we live in a country where there's no unified History, we can't really say whose fault caused the Sabra & Shatila genocide. Though it's pretty obvious who it was, and the movie showed many sides of the truth. Which aren't that flattering to Israel.

I have Beaufort, but I didn't watch it, as my brother told it was kind of subjective... but this one seems good.

That's a remake right? I'll probably see the original first but that looks cool. Werewolves are badass
