Anyone here watching American Gods ?
2 episodes out at the moment and so far, I love it. I'm also glad that as it turns out, I forgot most of the plot of the book (which I read over a decade ago, I think), so I'm getting surprised and can't bitch about how they did/didn't do something right. As for the plot, well.. I don't want to spoil anything, as the main character is someone trying to figure out what the hell is going on and where it's all going, but it's a Neil Gaiman story, so that should tell you everything you need to know - it's a mix of real and supernatural, with dreams, popculture references and bizarre characters. It's a dark and mature story, with quite a bit of humor in it. Ian McShane is brilliant as he always is, Gillian Anderson is a goddess (literally) and after seeing both episodes yesterday, at this moment, I can't really find any flaws in this. The casting in general, so far, seems brilliant. Peter Stormare as Czernobog and Orlando Jones as Anansi also work great. In fact I used to loathe mr Orlando Jones, without any legit reason (other than his sutpid face ;p) and now.. after only one scene he's been in so far in the series, he's growing on me. Oh, and a fair warning: there is violence and there is nudity. "heads blowing up in slo mo after being struck with a weapon" level violence, and "oh, here's another erect penis" level nudity. So feel warned if that's something you don't necessarily approve of. |
