If there's one comic I'd point someone toward to show them just what someone can accomplish with a graphic novel, then it would be Sandman.

Spoiler for Big-as-****:
**** context, just take in the weirdness.

I've done Watchmen, The Walking Dead, and V-vendetta.

Pretty new to the genre.

Sandman is right up there with those. It's simply required reading.

Moss 07-05-2015 01:14 PM

I actually still have the original Sandman 1-10 I bought sometime in the early 90's. Should probably unload them as they are just sitting in a cupboard although they are in plastic. Great Series.

Binge watched all season 1 of True Detective. Amazing. The Rust character is great.

Chula Vista 07-07-2015 10:10 AM

Binged the first three episodes of season 2 of TD. Such a completely different animal from season 1. I get that's the intent but it's hard to deal with coming off of the complete awesomeness of season 1.

Spoiler for Spoilers:
Few comments:

- Enough with the overhead panning shots of LA freeways that are not bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of the day.

- Too many side stories going on. Frank's impotence, Paul's gay dalliance during the war, the Mayor's f-cked up family, all add nothing to the narrative IMO (at least not yet).

- Vince Vaughn yanking out Goldie's teeth to show he's still badass? A bit overdone. I can see Goldie having one of his homies putting a bullet in Frank's skull for that.

Still better than most of what's on TV and I'm really hoping it gets more focused and intense like season 1 did as it went on.

Anybody watching Mr. Robot? I'm hearing really good things but I'm not sure if I should add it to the list.

Bitch, you don't even like Ke$ha. Why should we listen to you?

Chula Vista 07-08-2015 09:38 AM

Needed a new TV show to binge on so browsed Netflix and settled on Alias which I never even watched a single episode of when it made it's first run.

Holy crap! Three episodes in and totally loving it. It's like Chuck on steroids without any of the comedy. Speaking of Chuck, Sarah is a total ripoff of Sydney's character.

Goofle 07-09-2015 03:04 AM

Mr. Robot is fan-bloody-tastic. Has a slight Fight Club vibe in the themes, coupled with the slickness you have come to expect in modern television. I highly recommend it.

TWD Season 6 and FTWD trailers came out today. A song from Chelsea Wolfe's new album is on the FTWD trailer:

Pretty cool that she's now had her songs in both a GoT and TWD trailer. Also, FTWD actually looks like it could be pretty good.

Has anyone checked out The Man in the High Castle or read the novel? Seems like something I might enjoy.

True Detective Season Two: Episode 4

Spoiler for Holy Crap!:
That shootout at the end rivals the one in Heat. And maybe even tops it. **** is going to hit the fan next episode over that. And did ya see where they might have slipped in nod to the first season? The suspected murderers name was Ledo Amarillo. Amarillo if Yellow in Spanish. Yellow King? And Ledo is bit too close to Ledoux as in Reggie Ledoux.

Watchmen is still a superhero comic, and someone not already on board with superheros might very well see guys in goofy outfits and dismiss it without bothering to give it a chance. Sandman not so much.

I certainly enjoyed the first three episodes. I was hopeful that the program would maintain its focus on the issues surrounding technology and culture. Unfortunately, it IS a show, so it quickly shifted to center on the interrelationships between its characters.

As I much prefer documentaries to serialized drama I lost interest after S01EP03 but your mileage may vary.

I've been watching a **** ton of Steven Universe lately, it's one of the more thought out cartoons I've seen a while.

Do you like your TV with protagonists with absolutely no redeeming qualities? Yes? Then you'll love this show. Watch as two completely irredeemable despicable wastes of cum hurt each other in hilarious slapstick comedy while trying to get sex, money, drugs, and booze.

I must say True Dick is underwhelming this season.
I gotta say it also makes little to no sense.

Ashwell John 08-03-2015 08:41 PM

In Bangladesh people mostly watch the favorite TV program "ETC" on BTV. And it almost the near and dear ones program to all.

Overcast 08-03-2015 08:42 PM

What I'm watching:

Wayward Pines: Bad ending to an otherwise alright show
True Detective: Underwhelming
The Strain: Really bad sometimes, really bad in an enjoyable way sometimes, sometimes sort of good
Twin Peaks: Fantastic
Humans: S1 was great, happy to see a S2 is coming

Gonna rewatch House of Cards so I can start S3 and catch up on The Leftovers.

Chula Vista 08-03-2015 08:54 PM

The kitchen table, Mexican standoff scene to start off True Dick episode 6 had some nice dialogue.

FRANK: We gonna fight, Raymond?

RAY: I would have been different.

FRANK: Of all the lies people tell themselves, I bet that's the most common.

RAY: I could have. You ****ed me. I sold my soul for nothing.

FRANK: If you were selling, it wasn't me buying.

RAY: You wanted your hooks in a cop, so you used my wife's ****ing tragedy to get me to kill somebody.

FRANK: I didn't get you to do anything. I gave you a name and you made your choice. And that choice was in you before your wife or any of this other stuff. It was always there... waiting. And didn't you use that man to be what you were always waiting to become? (scoffs) This thing, your wife-- those are just excuses. You think you were Superman previous? And, hey, own it. You think I'd have done less? If that's the kind of thing that keeps you out of heaven, I don't want to go.

RAY: Who gave you the name?

FRANK: Guy one of my guys knew, as I remember. Told me your story. Gave up the crankhead talking up the rape. I never heard of the dude until then. Or you. He was scum, I know that.

RAY: I never even asked him anything. That guy, I just...

FRANK: You want out? You're free. You ain't had the nerve for this for a while.

Ray puts his finger on the trigger of his gun.

FRANK: I don't want a shoot-out in my ****ing kitchen, Raymond. And I don't want to see you die. By me or one of my other guys. I didn't set you up. And I ain't your suicide ticket.

The new seasons suck. They don't have the "I picked up my moms camera and started filming" feel to them like the older seasons have.

It seems whenever a detective noire story is set in LA it bends over backwards to make as little sense as possible. It always starts off nice and easy with a simple murder and then just spirals to the point where it feels like half the city is in on every murder that happens.

I haven't seen episode 7 yet but I've tried very hard to like this season, and while it's still definitely HBO caliber, it lacks whatever it was that made season 1 so great. I don't know if that was the singular direction from Cary Fukunaga, if it was the acting from two great leads, if it was all the Weird horror elements peppered throughout, or if it was the fact that nobody expected anything out of it, but yeah something has been missing this season. Its had great moments and definitely given a career boost to Colin Farrell, although I don't know if Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch will receive the same bump. Vince Vaughn is definitely the weak link, although he has had some good moments, I think if anything comes from this it's that he will get more offers for serious roles, and maybe then he'll star in some Oscarbait.
