Go watch the very first episode. It's what I did. Actually, I started reading the books, but the Dexter books aren't all that great, so then I went back to the show.

Watch The Wire.

It's one of those shows that I know I'm gonna end up watching at some point, but I can only watch so many cop shows at one time. I know The Wire is supposed to be as much a cop show as Watchmen is a superhero comic, but I'm in need of something preferably not crime-related. After I make my way through the last few seasons of Weeds I'm probably gonna be dramedy-ied out, so perhaps something head****y and dark. Might finally watch Twin Peaks, but I'm gonna need something else afterwards, since that's only two seasons long.

Maybe I'll rewatch X-Files or something. Haven't seen an episode since it went off the air. I guess I could always give Fringe another shot. I stopped watching after a few episodes once I got tired of watching what I saw an X-Files clone with boring explanations for all the weird **** that was going on. I hear it was supposed to get a lot better and weirder later on. Dude, maybe old episodes of The Outer Limits. That show was a pretty sweet modernization of The Twilight Zone that didn't get nearly enough credit.

Just wish I wasn't mostly caught up with Game of Thrones. I know there are new episodes, but I'd rather binge on a whole season. Maybe rewatch the first season of Rome and then finish the series.

Goofle 04-06-2015 01:07 AM

Or just watch The Wire and thank me later.

I'll even change your avatar to [insert several favourite characters] free of charge.

Like I said, I don't really want to get into another crime drama for a while. Wouldn't even be interested in finally finishing The Sopranos or starting Breaking Bad.

Finished season four this evening (last night technically).

Ironically I am only just watching Mad Men. Late to the party.

I've tried several times to get into it but no dice. I may give it another go one of these days, at least it'll be after the whole series is on Fletnix.

Ashwell John 04-06-2015 07:42 AM

BBC news mostly.

So you're not going to watch Daredevil when it drops on Netflix on Friday?

Comic book heroes are comic book heroes and are exempt from any and all fatigue. Hopefully it'll be up on Tube+ pretty quick so I don't have to wait to watch it.

Or sign up for your free month of Netflix, then watch it and cancel it because you're a cheap bastard?

The Batlord 04-06-2015 11:16 AM

Man, I'm too lazy for that ****. Besides, sites like Tube+ have new episodes up pretty much the next day after they air, so I don't have to wait.

I also tried years ago and it bored me to death, but these days I like shows that are just straight up drama and don't bother with lots of action sequences. It's also just really well shot, with great performances and the best production (especially with set and costume design) on television.

Goofle 04-06-2015 03:49 PM

I loved Mad Men when I initially watched it. Fell out of habit when I caught up and didn't know the new season was out.

debaserr 04-06-2015 04:59 PM

Mad Men is subtlety porn.

Did anyone see that documentary on Scientology? It was on HBO and I've torrented it but not watched it yet though it is meant to be very good.

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015) - IMDb

That's it.

Chula Vista 04-07-2015 09:31 AM

F*ck scientology. The leaders of that cult should all be taken out back and shot in the face with very small caliber bullets so that it takes a lot of rounds to put them down.

So, here's my Dexter season rankings.

1) Season one.
2) Season seven.
3) Season four.
4) Season two.
5) Season five.
6) Season eight.
7) Season three.
8) Season six.

So, here's my Dexter season rankings.

1) Season one.
2) Season seven.
3) Season four.
4) Season two.
5) Season five.
6) Season eight.
7) Season three.
8) Season six.

I have a short memory, so my ranking might not be personally definitive, but here goes.

1.) Season 7 - Dex and Debra's relationship really blossomed into one of the most interesting character dynamics I've ever seen. The writers managed to walk a very fine line while portraying their dysfunctional, codependent relationship as both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The main storyline wasn't quite as good as previous seasons, but by the end, the hitman guy had really grown on me.

2.) Season 2 - Overall this might be the most solid season, besides maybe 4. I think it might have ruined season 8, since everything that could have been done with Dexter possibly getting caught in the end had already been done. The tension of this season was just brilliant.

3.) Season 4 - The last great villain of the series -- probably the best too -- and like the best Batman villains, Lithgow really was a mirror for Dexter's own personal demons. And dat ending.

4.) Season 1 - The show was still finding its legs, so it had some growing pains, but the drama of Dexter slowly finding out more about his past was some compelling ****.

5.) Season 5 - All in all it wasn't a great season, and the premise of Dexter and Lumen's relationship was about as absurd as I was willing to accept, but they had such great chemistry that I still loved them together. Still, that was pretty much the only really standout thing about the season -- though Jonny Lee Miller did make for a pretty good main villain.

6. Season 8 - Lotta random, uninteresting subplots that had no business being introduced at the end of an eight season series, lotta logically-challenged plot developments, bland villain, and just a general lack of direction. There were some great moments though, but what really saved this season from being an abject failure was the continuation of Dex and Deb's emotional rollercoaster... at least until Hannah showed up and took entirely too much focus away from that. This season really did have potential, but in the end they squandered it. Dat ending though.

7.) Season 3 - There was just something boring about this one. It wasn't bad, just really mediocre. I don't have anything to rail against, but I also don't have anything to praise. Dex and Rita's continuing relationship was intriguing, but not as much as the other three out of the first four seasons. The main villain was good as a character, and there was definitely a certain tension since you knew it wasn't going to end well, but there was just too much time in-between the beginning of the season and when he became an actual threat. There's a difference between slow-burning and just plain slow.

8.) Season 6 - If it wasn't for Mos Def and the end of the season finale, there would really be **** all good about this season. Mos Def and Dexter had good chemistry, and it was interesting to see a "good guy" in the role of Dexter's mirror, rather than another villain, but then they killed him off entirely too early and that was the end of anything even remotely good. But worst of all was the villain. Edward James Olmos had presence, but the character was written so poorly that he still came off as two-dimensional and ridiculous, and his "protege" was completely uninteresting. To make it worse, rather than come up with actual good villains, the writers relied on laughable, over-the-top, quasi-gore spectacles and painfully cliched religious babble to try to shock people.

Goofle 04-07-2015 06:54 PM

I forgot Mos Def was in Dexter actually. He was really good.

I started watching http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BK25f4btq4M/VN...ned-poster.jpg In English, just to see if it lives up to the French version.

It's quite good.....

that's pretty sadistic of you to say. scientology is a top notch cult imo.

The legs on that poster gave me flashbacks to your tiger avatar.

Chula Vista 04-08-2015 09:12 AM

Caught the first three episodes of Chuck last night.

1. Fun and very funny show so far.
2. Vince Masuka in the house!!!
3. Yvonne Stahovski........ Oh. My. Lord.

Goofle 04-08-2015 09:26 AM

Started Six Feet Under last night. Seems like a really good show and one I'll probably binge watch.

RoxyRollah 04-08-2015 09:53 AM

Omg its frigging great^..

Rewatching True Detective. Straight up binge....Been up since 2 am.

Cuthbert 04-08-2015 01:47 PM

I'm gonna torrent Peep Show and stick all the episodes on my phone when it arrives and watch one episode a night before bed.

Never seen anything on this show, but David Mitchell is quite funny whenever I've seen him (the Sky Sports sketch, 'I Could Care Less' etc), this is meant to be decent, my mate just got into it and has watched about five series in the space of a couple weeks so I'll report back with my opinion when I've seen a few episodes.

Frownland 04-08-2015 01:55 PM

I wish I could watch Peep Show for the first time again.

Go and watch The Wire. Seriously. Do it. It's an order.
I only saw it recently and .. well, it's one of those things you cannot unsee - it wil f*ck up all other cop shows for you. It's that god damned good. And it has really great music too! Also if it's a cop show, it's also a drug dealer show, corrupt politician show, journalism show and teacher/school show. Oh, and an workers union show. Multiple points of view are shown and there are very few good guys - but you can find them on all sides.
Don't watch the X files. I tried that - and the only thing I got was my nostalgia fueled memories burning to the ground. There are some shows that can withstand the "test of time", things like the A team that was pure cheese from the start and you don't mind how goofy it is ... well, not that much anyway. But the X files ... re watching several episodes from season 1 just made me sad :(

Frownland 04-09-2015 09:23 AM

Yac knows what's up. I'm halfway through the fifth season and it's one of my favourites. I might even begrudgingly hold it in higher regard than Breaking Bad.

The Batlord 04-09-2015 09:56 AM

Too late. Already binge watching Gargoyles. Second-best American cartoon ever, after Batman: The Animated Series.

Goofle 04-09-2015 11:14 AM

That's unfortunate for you.

Finally got my bf to start the X Files. We're six eps in and he loves it. I think this is my third time around.

Chad hasn't seen X-Files? Did he skip the nineties or something? You should tell him about Nirvana. It'll probably blow his mind.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Watching this badass show again. Probably the best 80's parody series I've seen. Matt Berry is a comedy genius.
