Well considering the massive popularity of some recent French shows, I don't really think it would have hurt them much. But it is what it is.

Yellowjackets is gnarly and it rules

Marie, you would like Vigil. Intelligent, humane, lovely Scottish accents all around, the lesbian love story at the center of it is very moving etc etc. Has a lot going for it.

oh I'm gonna watch that, apparently it also stars Rose Leslie so I'm sold

Versailles (Netflix)

Very clever and for some reason believable. Also surprisingly queer. I think it may have been a bit controversial in France considering it's a Canal+ show about Versailles and Louis XIV but is for some reason (I'm guessing maximum commercial impact) filmed in English with English actors. It doesn't bother me although I imagine it could have been just as good if not better in French.

Well, that's something to watch on that wasteland. Thanks.

Vigil was neat. I especially liked how all the alliances subtly shift as more things get uncovered. It doesn't give an easy moral verdict or solution but leaves you with some uncomfortable questions

Yes! I would say though that it doesn't give an easy moral verdict but it kinda gently guides you towards an uneasy one, no? Something along the lines of "you can be a useful idiot (or worse) for the Russians or you grow up and perceive the beauty (despite everything!) of that world in which you live and realize that there are some things in it worth safeguarding?"
