Watched the first season of The Chair on Netflix with Sandra Oh, very good show but quite short, just 6 episodes at 30 min.

Moving on to Dark (also Netflix):



German mystery thriller. Heard good things about it. First episode delivers.

Yes, Peep Show is such a funny sitcom, and Super Hans is a great character.

@TH & addidasss: I made it through the first season of Peaky Blinders, but suddenly and completely lost interest in season 2 because of the implausable plot twist I was expected to swallow but declined to.

Just finished a well-scripted murder mystery called "Clickbait". Set in modern, but precovid USA, it's what they call a limited series on Netflix and so it doesn't outstay its welcome like Peaky Blinders does. I found it gripping from start to finish, and took away this message: Never use social media, never trust anyone who does. Good advice. Trust me.

Just finished possibly the best Nordic drama I've seen since The Bridge. Based around the lead-up to a terrorist attack on a restaurant in Copenhagen, When the Dust Settles takes a deep look at the coincidences and circumstances that have people ending up where they should not be, and thus caught in the crossfire. Superb performances all around, tight, gripping writing and the kind of plot that does something I find very hard for any writer to do, which is change your mind about characters - you start off hating one guy and liking another, and by the end of the series your feelings towards both have completely reversed. Highly recommended. Available through the on-demand service ALL4 from Channel 4 in the UK.

Incidentally, Your Honor fell apart. The plot got so contrived and ridiculous, it just was insulting my intelligence watching it. Plus I no longer cared about any of the characters, all of whom were selfish ****s. So I ditched it. I spoke to someone on another forum who agreed, watched it to the end and said it did not improve, so I'm glad I stopped where I did.

Oh yeah, second season of this, there's really no way you can make sense of a time travel plotline and they went balls deep into it so it's just a ridiculous mess at this point, but let's see how much more senseless it can get!

Yes, I watched the first season of Dark and enjoyed it despite the big impossible thing we are expected to swallow: time travel. It's intriguing in a way: i) the story itself and ii) wondering how the writers will deal with the well-known paradoxes, etc.of time travel. Actually, I thought they did a good job in season 1.

I'd like to use Trollheart's verdict on "Your Honour" to grumble about the diet we are offered on Netflix:- The plot got so contrived and ridiculous.


This seems to happen over and over again with series as they become increasingly desperate to extend a storyline beyond its natural lifespan. To make matters worse, Netflix seem to have bought a "job lot" of dark Scandanavian/European mystery series: there's one about post-apocalyse rain, one about lava people coming back from the dead, one about a cult worshiping (as I recall) a strawman of some kind. Anyway, as you may see they have become a blur in my head, which is why I haven't looked at Dark, Series 2: I can't be bothered to re-remember the convoluted plot of Series 1, and work out which events were from which story.

Something completely different is the Seinfeld sitcom, all 9 series now available on Netflix and still enjoyable, even though the first series was shown way back in 1989. Seems like a landmark in US sitcoms to me, and I secretly feel that the writers of Friends plundered it for ideas and attitudes before writing their own show with a more marketable gender balance.

What I really liked about season 1 of Dark was how they handled the impact the disappearance of those kids had on their families, it was quite unusual that in a mystery series they take care to really portray the grief and pain caused by such an event (in that sense it reminded me of the first season of Forbrydelsen). It really glued together the story and made you kind of overlook some of the gaping plot holes. This is almost entirely absent in the second series so there are only plot holes.

Still, I'm curious to see how they'll try to tie it all together.

I am always so behind, so I am getting caught up on Poldark and Victoria, two favorites already. I might be favoring Poldark over Downton, which I never anticipated.

Started Midnight Mass as I'm a HUGE fan of The Haunting of Hill House. First episode was interesting enough but I'm hoping it actually goes to interesting places instead of just kind of meandering around like Bly Manor did.
