BBCA's cancellation of Dirk Gently was the deciding factor: I'm done with TV unless I know it has ended and the ending is known to be decent.

There's some hope of it getting picked up for streaming elsewhere, but I'm not banking on it.
the first season was quite good, it intrigued me where they were going to go with it all

Spoiler for thoughts:
but god damn season 2 is a hot mess. not sure I can stomach finishing it tbh

TD S1 is like the best cop thing. Every time I rewatch it I still find myself getting my hopes up that some weird fiction element will jump out at me and mean that it was a closet sci fi horror show.

It was so good. It was basically everything I'd been wishing for in a show/film. (A southern gothic murder mystery with subtle fantastical elements that didn't feel corny + an amazing and almost palpable setting/atmosphere.) It just felt oddly real? Kind of how the new Twin Peaks season felt like a dream that you (and only you) were dreaming. And Louisiana/the deep south is the absolute perfect setting for stories of that nature due to how weird that part of America is in general.

Those of you who like TD should look into the show Broadchurch (first two seasons) if you haven't. They're very different shows, obviously but they have a somewhat similar feel.

And if you don't feel like the Rust of your own little world then it's probably because you're a boring normie.

He's extremely relatable.

Woody Harrison's sideways stares after a Rust monologue might have been the best thing about that season.

I'm just going to assume you meant Harrelson.

Chio, if you haven't seen it already, I think American Gothic would be something you'd be really into.

The ending to TD season 1 sucked though.
Should have stayed nihilistic til the end instead of getting all corny.

I don't think it necessarily wasn't nihilistic.

Spoiler for spoilers:
Rust found god and was willing to see the world in a better light which allowed him to ignore the rest of the pedophile ring still active. This could be interpreted as saying that to be happy you have to give the horrors of the world your tacit approval or else you'll drive yourself crazy.

I'll have to rewatch it before being able to judge how contrived that interpretation is.
