Spoiler for angel spoilers:
Oh yeah around then I took a break for at least a season. I was confused as hell when I came back and Angel was in charge of Wolfram and Hart, and I still don't know what the **** happened to Cordelia or how it could possibly not piss me off. And they also killed off Darla to give us that annoying twat son, which was bogus. But the lead up to her death was probably her best part on Buffy or Angel.

I'd have to see it first to forget it ;) I'm slowly making my way through these panel shows, there are so many, none of them was ever on tv in my country, so I watch them on youtube and I've yet to see more than a couple of episodes of "Have I got news for you", but I assume it's good since it's mostly the same handful of funny people doing all these shows, right ? Shouldn't be too different ;)

Pretty much. You do need to be more or less up on your English politics (though they do world ones too) to get most of the jokes, but it's a hoot. I remember the late Bruce Forsyth hosted it once. I don't know if you know him, but he was big in the seventies and eighties, and one of his best-known catchphrases to the audience was "Nice to see you, to see you nice!"

So anyway, he was talking about the invasion of Iraq and he said "George Bush keeps telling us that Saddam Hussein has all these WMDs. Well, it would be nice to see them, to see them... (audience roars) NICE!"

That reminds me of those ****ty sitcoms where they'd fill in a space where a joke should go by using a contrived catchphrase that the audience liked more through being beaten over the head with it than it having any comedic value, as if they were Pavlov's dog and laughing to get their treat. Not that this sounds in any way similar.

Catchphrases are a bad ting.

Trollheart 01-18-2018 01:39 PM

Oh I agree: catchphrases are ****. What are catchphrases? ;)

This one, though, for once, just fit perfectly, and Forsyth is an institution in England, so it would be like, I don't know, Bob Hope hosting the show? Maybe not. I'm not up on who's popular in American gameshows, but whomever.

Years of pointlessly repeated jabber all for one good joke. I knew that British humour is more subtle than American humour, but you guys really run with it.

Not to mention the casual racism and overt sexism that's just accepted, even expected, by British gameshow audiences. Here:

I kind of want to rewatch season 1 of True Detective. Never saw season 2 as it looked terrible. I read that Nic Pizzolatto will be the sole writer for season 3, so I'll definitely be watching.

True Detective season 3 release date set for 2019, Scoot McNairy added to cast
2019 is so far away :c (it'll be set in the Ozarks which I'm excited about since my grandfather's side of the family is from there)

Season 2 was not that bad at all. I liked it when all was said and done. It's just that Season 1 set the bar so high.

I'll re-watch both seasons someday.
