I hope Death Note didn't just kill the only character I don't hate intensely. The show can't win with me now: Either I hate everyone who remains and the story progresses unsatisfactorily, or they bring him back from the dead and I lose respect for the story and the writers.

I finished it.

Spoiler for Deth Noat:

That wasn't great. Double twist at the end was predictable from 5-6 episodes prior. Ending wasn't earned and didn't feel satisfying. The king's fall wasn't protracted enough to make me feel vindicated after watching the lead character be a bag of dicks for 36 episodes.

Whole thing went off the rails when they decided to kill L, then replace him with an identical character who filed the same role, but provided none of the inner dialogue of the former character. Without L's internal monologue, the development ceased to feel like it was being logically deduced and began to feel like "magical TV characters' convenient telepathy guesstime theatre".

Plot became super convoluted and cluster****y when they had 3 active notebooks in rotation and kept switching the owners and changing who remembers what. Pretty sure there are a couple of plotholes in all of that mess. E.g., At one point the entire task force could interact with Ryuk despite the task force not being in possession of the notebook... yet every character overlooked this and didn't think it was weird when A) a shinigami started to hang out with them for no reason and B) when he stopped, also for no clear reason.

Big disappointment and waste of a good premise. Don't understand why this is lauded the way it is.

One of the shows I intended to watch, but it's been years and I still haven't gotten around to it. So... basically, not worth it? Sure would save me some time.

I've never seen the show so I can't comment, but having read a good amount of the manga I'd say it's most definitely worth reading at least. It gets convoluted but in that fun kind of way where there's just so much important **** going on that if you're into it it's kind of epic, even if there's more than a touch of the soap opera (in the plot sense, not the ridiculous love subplot sense). Maybe it falls apart later I dunno, but I never found myself bored reading the manga, or feeling like I was reading something that only weebs could appreciate. If the show is comparable to the manga then I'd definitely recommend it as a show of interest if nothing else. It'll be fun for a good while at least. And Light is just the evilest anti-hero who doesn't even really qualify as an anti-hero cause he's just a monster. Love him.

I only know kind of vaguely what the premise of the story is. One of the things that would make it less appealing to me is if it's one of those shows that have many, many seasons. In my experience, good anime shows tend to bow out after 2 seasons. I've only read very little manga. I kept up with Dragon Ball for a long time back in the day and read some Akira too, but since then it has admittedly mostly been anime. Shows that run for a long time tend to have too many dumb plot twists and too much padding. Death Note is just a series that has a lot of notoriety and a lot of people praising it, so It's hard to figure out if it's worth the time invenstment or not. I might check it out. I've burned my fingers on highly praised anime before. Attack on Titan was complete bull****.

I gave up on Attack On Titan after a few episodes.
Drawn out pile of crap.
Death note is amazing though. The last half of the episodes is not as good as the first half but there's so much great stuff there and some amazingly intelligent writing. That one female character is indeed annoying as hell but the protagonist is ****ing awesome. I love sociopathic heros.

Attack on Titan really relied far too much on having characters stand around, waiting to be dismembered, while thinking/saying aloud how terrible the current situation is. That really kills any believeability a scene might have had. I tried to watch Claymore once, but it completely pushed itself off the rails with these dumb, drawn out scenes where it just felt like the show was stalling for time.

Just finished the final season of Ripper Street after a three-season marathon. Great ending, tied up all the loose ends, some unexpected twists and it ended in a way I really appreciated. Excellent series, would heartily recommend. Particularly if you're into Victorian murders.
