I do think, though, if your opinion is only based on a few episodes you don't have the whole picture. It's really hard to see how she gets all the way to contemplating suicide based on the first 4 episodes. I would have to say the intensity of the second half of the season and the traumas Hannah goes through... I'm not sure I would want young teenagers to watch it. I'm interested what your opinion would be of the whole season.
I have the unfortunate circumstance of not being able to get into a show if it slowly gets good. It's happened with several shows that I thought i'd like. (Medium comes to mind.) My attention span and thought process on a lot of things is very fickle, and what happens is i'll not only get defensive, but will take things personally. With that, I will say I just have no overall need to continue watching the show. I wouldn't even say my perspective is accurate or one that should be taken seriously. But again, I also have a tendency to second guess myself.

And honestly, I won't even try to convince you because it's impossible to.
This show does a great job of opening up people to discuss and how they process the show. The same conversation that you and duga are having is a positive aspect that comes from the show. Viewers end up taking different things from the show based off of their experiences. I feel like you are quick to shut down my experiences because you don't know what I've been through with my own battles with depression and attempting.

I don't think in any of my posts I have showed any indication that I'm shutting down your experiences. You've not really said anything about them (nor have I) so I don't know where you're getting that nonsense. I understand the thought process you have, but this type of thing doesn't need to be debated. There needs to be information provided in the proper way, not some blanket of information that people can debate regarding depression and suicide. Sure, duga and I have had a discussion about this, but if it were me and I had committed suicide, the last thing I'd want people to be doing is talking about whether or not the cause of it was valid or not. For one that's just completely insensitive and a push backwards for those that are actually dealing with this type of thing. You can love the show all you want, but don't expect me to do the same. And to be honest, I would NOT want to have a glorified TV show made about me in an attempt to make a quick buck off of a serious issue.

Just in case you are curious, I've had several attempts in my life where an unstoppable force stopped me from proceeding. I'm not trying to belittle you, as I understand most of your point.

I'm watching the first season, how did you know?

Trying to catch up because I dropped off on the third episode for no particularly good reason on my first time around.

The discussion isn't about invalidating one's experience. It is about creating a platform to discuss those experiences and get further education/help if need be. I still feel like the show is a good jumping off point for parents to bring up tough conversations with their kids if they are willing to talk about it. It is fine you don't like the show but the show as a tool is a useful one to dig deeper and create a conversation especially with teens that can relate.

I stumbled across the sketch comedy series Bruiser which is a fucking who's who in British comedy from the early 00's. You've got David Mitchell, Robert Webb, Martin Freeman, and Olivia Colman, with writing credits including Richard Ayoade and Ricky Gervais.

This is me too. It's kind of more based though with me on a space consideration, ie I only have so much space on my set-top box, so as the percentage begins to drop I start to look at series I've recorded, think "I'll try this" and if by episode two or three I'm not getting it I'll normally delete it just to make space. I do need to be impressed fairly quickly. I need to WANT to watch the show, not hope it gets better as each week it fails.
