It's imo a lot better than Dark Matter. I enjoy DM a lot, but it has this.. well, cheesy Stargate feel which shouldn't be a surprise as it's created by the same guys. And for the record, I've seen all stargate movies and tv series at least 3 times, so I know a thing or two about nostalgia.. but here, it loses the fight. Dark Matter honestly feels like a guilty pleasure when compared to the Expanse, at least in the context of serious sf.
The Expanse has a big budget feel. And it is much more grounded in reality.
Politics, human rights, genocide, "greater good", racism and many other isms, it's all there, shaping the world of the Expanse. And the world, thanks to that, is .. well, real.
I can't find the words to describe this to be honest, you'll have to see it and judge for yourself.

DS9 is slowly becoming my favorite Star Trek series.

I forgot about Sisko's ****ty son. He looks like he's about to bust out some Shaolin Fist at Studio 54.

Not going to lie if Jake and Nog died in house fire I'd be okay with that.

I think I was thinking of Rom when I said Nog. Rom was Quark's dumbass cousin, right? Who married the short-haired Dax chick? It's been many years since I've seen the show so a lot has faded. Definitely remember it being the best Star Trek series though. Or at least by far the best for long-form storytelling.

Yes and no. He was Quark's brother. Nog was Rom's son, and therefore Quark's nephew. I think he referred to Rom as his cousin but they were brothers. Not quite sure how that worked, but being Ferengi you can be sure it had something to do with not sharing the profits! Rom was linked to Lyta, the Dabbo girl, but I can't remember if he married her. Don't think so.
Spoiler for Spoiler, man! Spoiler! Do not read if you're watching for the first time!:
Jadzia Dax married Worf. Then she died.

I mean, which one was Quark's relative from the very beginning of the show who Quark tolerated merely because they were related even though Rom was functionally retarded?

Spoiler for spoiler:
And yeah, I know Jadzia married Worf, but when she died and the symbiote passed to the next chick (don't remember her name) didn't she get with Rom?
