Think of him as the second and third part third part of the tripod. The vigilante/Arrow = Batman, and he = Commisioner Gordon and Harvey Dent.

God damnit, I just realized I did what you did, but **** it, Laurel's dad is the **** and vastly important to Arrow.

If you ever want to know where Batman: The Dark Knight (as in the movie with Heath Ledger) and Arrow got their inspiration from, then just check out The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb. It will wreck your **** and show you that comic books can be every bit as amazing as non-comic books.

Seriously, The Long Halloween is beyond amazing. Come to me if you don't know how to get access to it, as I can find any comic book you would ever want to read,

Short education: graphic novel = comic book without connection to history. The Long Halloween is basically Batman's first one or two years of comic history, but with awesomeness from the Joker, Poison Ivy, and Two-Face. Two-Face is especially important, and will make The Dark Knight make ever more sense.

Trade Paper Back = Graphic Novel, except that it's a collection of issues from a monthly title.

Just check this ****...
