The Terror
Oh my <3
Based on a book by Dan Simmons, which was based on the infamous Franklin's lost expedition.
And it's lovely. In a "we're all gonna die in the worst ways imaginable" way of lovely.. which might make me sound like a psycho, I guess ;)
I binge watched the whole 10 episodes series yesterday, I launched episode 1 eating breakfast.. and then I realized I've just finished episode 7 and simply have to finish it asap.
I won't spoil the story, though it is following the historical events mostly, so it shouldn't be a surprise for anyone who read about it earlier.
Production wise, I don't think there's anything I can really say that failed. Acting was great, costumes etc too, music was fitting, cgi was invisible (they filmed most of the show in a studio in Hungary).
And great performances all around, I really can't find a single weak link in the cast. Jared Harris - captain Francis Crozier stole the show imo, but the rest of the cast was just as good - dr Goodsir played by Paul Ready and mr Blanky played by Ian Hart and of course, Cornelius Hickey (Adam Nagaitis).
Don't want to spoil anything, so I'll stop here.
If you're looking for a dark, mature tv show that builds up the dread not with jump scares but with atmosphere, it can't get much better than The Terror imo.

Goofle 04-18-2018 05:08 AM

The Expanse is back baby!

OccultHawk 04-25-2018 01:14 PM

The first episode of season two West World is boring me to death.

I finished season one of Lost in Space. It was entertaining.

Does anyone else like this sitcom AP Bio? It has terrible reviews but I like it

Oriphiel 04-25-2018 02:26 PM

Watching City Hunter. Guy chases pussy, and occasionally shoots bad guys. 10/10

Are you sure you're not watching Occulthawk's personal after-hours videos?

^ second season is hot trash. unwatchable

Trollheart 04-27-2018 02:46 PM

Didn't like the books. Surprising thing to say about Adams, but The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul was rubbish. :(

Completely untrue.
I loved both seasons. Too bad there won't be a third.

Ninetales 04-30-2018 01:09 PM

first one at least had some intriguing story arcs that could counterbalance the overwrought quirkiness. second season went full throttle on the obnoxious "lol so random" shtick to the point that I could not physically watch.

Has anybody seen this AMC show The Terror? I keep hearing good things and I need something short to watch in between all the Futurama and X-Files.

Or even one show at a time?

Becker, Soap, Family Ties - brings back some memories, and all good ones too.

Chula Vista 04-30-2018 08:58 PM

All good stuff, Troll. Really, all really good stuff.

OccultHawk 04-30-2018 09:07 PM

Or maybe it was all a stupid brainless waste of time.

Not judgment. I’ve watched ****loads of TV.

I enjoyed this brainless waste of time:

Bored to Death

That Becker mention reminded me of it.

Just ordered it.

OccultHawk 05-01-2018 09:22 AM

It’s one of the trashiest memoirs I ever read.

Chula Vista 05-01-2018 09:24 AM

Chick went through hell and back. The Momma's and the Pappa's weren't very good parents. And that's a major understatement.

OccultHawk 05-01-2018 10:06 AM

After you read it let me know if you think she was really bumping uglies with Poppa.

Lilja 05-13-2018 01:22 AM

Watching Youtube's "Kobra Kai". I like how they keep taking the story arcs of the original Karate Kid movies and repeating them here and there..and you only really get them if you have seen the original multiple times, pretty much idolizing it. Which I have :)

simplephysics 05-13-2018 06:27 PM

I need a new show to watch. Especially anything like Mad Men or shows that are quirky and/or spooky.

Frownland 05-13-2018 07:28 PM

The first season of this was pretty well done and creepy. The other two were trash.

Channel Zero - Candle Cove

Season one of a horror anthology in the vein of American Horror Story in that each season is its own world. Just watched the first episode and thought it was dope as hell. Hopefully it can carry that for the whole season. I'd go into the plot but I'd recommend going in blind.

Just received all three seasons of Hannibal. As soon as American God's is done I'm diving in. Can't wait.
