True. Apart from the first few episodes (or maybe just the very first one, I can't quite remember) they are two entirely different shows. They had to be.

The original only ran for about 12 episodes and the specials. That allowed it to keep quite an authentic feel. It was like a real documentary in the sense that you knew you were only watching edited moments of the characters lives. And the backbone of it was the romantic interest between Tim and Dawn, which spanned the entire length of the series.

The American one has made about 150 episodes now. They can't do that, so they have to make it something very different. It's good though.

EvilChuck 03-31-2011 12:27 PM

The first series of the US version used the same script and stories, just adapted slightly for the American audience (changing a few words here and there so they are relevant to a different audience). I think some of series 2 may have been similar as well, but the majority of series 2 was original.

Mojo 03-31-2011 12:31 PM

Right. I do seem to remember the odd scene here and there that was very similarly scripted. The first episode was the exact same script though, wasn't it? I could be slightly wrong, it's a while since I watched the very first series now.

EvilChuck 03-31-2011 12:40 PM

I dont think it was exactly the same, no. Didnt Ryan feature in episode 1 of the US version, whereas Ricky the temp only joined about halfway through the UK version? I cant actually remember clearly, and didnt enjoy series 1 of the US version enough to want to re watch it all and find out lol.

Wikipedia's episode guide of series 1 seems to bear no resemblance to the UK version at all in fact; The Office (U.S. season 1) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mojo 03-31-2011 12:43 PM

Hmm. I felt as though it was. Oh well, it was at least the one written by Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais. Maybe that's all it was.

The Batlord 04-01-2011 01:47 PM

I've started watching Castle recently. I usually hate (HATE! HATE! HATE!)cop dramas, but this one has Nathan Fillion being Nathan Fillion as only Nathan Fillion can be. So it is awesome.

I'm super into 24 and Biggest Loser-- opposite sides of the spectrum, but I like 'em. 24 is ludicrous but Kiefer Sutherland (a huge music fan I've heard-- he has his own label I believe) is great and makes it work-- he plays it so well! I mean, he's witnessed two nuclear bombs go off!

Biggest Loser on the other hand is such damn good motivation-- It's amazing to see everyone lose so much weight! The winner from last season is gorgeous now and should replace fugly Jared from Subway in their ads. They have this kid who's 19 and 450 lbs that I hope stays on and loses a ton cause he'll be dead by 30 otherwise. Anyone watching the new season??

Californication, Modern Family, Raising Hope and Secret Diary of a Call Girl

Bloozcrooz 04-05-2011 06:16 PM

I was watching this show called auction hunters purley by chance. They bid on a storage rooms full of peoples left behind posessions.

Dude scores a 1979 Fender Strat. American made in mint condition..all original nothing tampered with. Also a Fender amp but they didnt go into detail as to what size or model it was. Their bid on that storage room was 275$ They got 2,200 for the guitar and amp alone.

Somewhat interesting show I guess

debaserr 04-06-2011 03:08 AM

Raust 04-13-2011 04:41 PM

Saw the pilot for Workaholics. Looks interesting thinking I'll keep watching it.

Oh Mofatt/BBC. Why must you pain us so...

glastonelle 04-14-2011 11:31 PM

^ DR WHO! Can't wait for season 2!

Been getting into Misfits (quite late on it actually - all my friend have already seen the 2nd series and I'm lagging behind with 3 episodes of the 1st series) and waiting and wishing for a new permanent host on Never Mind the Buzz****s. Preferably Simon Amstell again. Miss him like crazy :(

Bloozcrooz 04-15-2011 08:59 AM

Ive started with the ol shows I use to watch. Mostly whatever comes on discovery now days. I like the biograph channel as well sometimes. Man vs Wild, whale wars, deadliest catch, and things like that really interest me the most though.

indienut 04-17-2011 09:06 PM

Parenthood - an okay family drama

pooka 04-17-2011 09:19 PM

derek 04-20-2011 05:30 PM

Shark Tank and Big Bang Theory are the two best shows on TV.

Key 04-20-2011 08:16 PM

Been watching every season of The Office on netflix. Though netflix has been acting up today, so the quality is shit.

djchameleon 04-21-2011 08:22 AM

I just started watching Flashpoint. I tried to watch a few episodes when it first started and I loved it but it conflicted with other programming that I recorded so that's why I didn't keep up with it.

In case you didn't already know, Flashpoint is Canadian, filmed in Toronto, and loosely based on the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force ;)

hmmm I thought it was just passed off of SWAT team tactics that we have state side.

I might have to stop watching it then

I can't knowingly support a Canadian based show.

- CSI NY
- Action Hunters

captaincaptain 04-22-2011 11:02 PM

I just bought Band of Brothers and The Pacific on Blu Ray, so I'm watching those and the new AMC show The Killing.

Sparky 04-22-2011 11:34 PM

been watching twin peaks a lot. So far i'd say it's overrated, at least the supernatural element of it.

djchameleon 04-23-2011 12:31 AM

I finally got caught up with The Event. I like the show but I don't want to really get too into it because it keeps giving me this feeling that it's going to get canceled which I think it might have already. I have to look it up.

Howard the Duck 04-23-2011 12:35 AM

Mad Men, season one.

Still waiting for it to get good. Hasn't really held my interest up to this point. I guess I will finish the season and see where it goes.
