I saw my first episode of Coupling the other day. Then I watched 2 seasons in one sitting. What a damn funny show.

What?? We remade that show too? That's a little sad...I let the Office slide since it was actually good, but really now.

So, yes...the original.

American networks have ruined so many British shows over the years. The Office was a rare success though, i love the American version of it. The reason it works is because they root it in the overall feel and essence of the original but don't try and copy it. It's a show set in an American workplace, in a different country, with different people. Why would you try and force the "British-ness" into it anyway? I consider it a completely seperate show to the British one and it's fantastic.

Coupling was one of the shows that the Americans tried to copy scene for scene and it was a disaster.

Coupling was nothing groundbreaking. We have a lot of shows like that, 20-30 year old single group of friends who swear and shag each other. It's nothing new. But Coupling also had the advantage of having some good writers on board. It's a much more creative show than it looks on the surface. It's far from the "British Friends" it was made out to be at the time.

A British Friends is how it was first described to me. There really are a ****load of shows covering the same premise, so it is almost always the writing that makes or breaks a sitcom like that for me. The jokes in Coupling are spot on...they take jokes that I wouldn't think would make me laugh and I end up cracking up. I'd say the quality is up there with Friends, but it isn't Friends.

I hated Coupling. Bad humour and annoying characters.

Non-linear storytelling + a very, very compelling plot = Holy mauder fauker with a sick dolla sucky suck.

It's particularly funny since Coupling was basically a British remake of Friends.

Most sitcoms tread the same kind of line. I don't watch them for originality. Even if the situations are taken straight from another show, if they do it right and make me laugh then it's fine by me.
