I took a two semester course called Honors Reading Conference and it was basically "Read a bunch of books in a small window of time." We read a variety of books which was nice. I read a Dante's Inferno, The Prince, The Quiet American, a couple of the William Blake Collections, a good portion of the Bible, quite a bit of Shakespeare... um, I don't even remember what else haha. It was a lot to take in. Needless to say I was a bit burned out after that, and coupled with working a full time internship over the summer I never got back in to my reading habits. This would probably get me back to my old form more than anything else would so I'm all for this.

English Major has like zero job opportunities except...English teacher. My mom was an english major when she graduated, and then went back and got a computer engineering degree.

That's a giant misconception. Your mom should've done some research before going back to school.

Yeah and look at the top salaries in that article Ethan... The top earners made about 63K a year. As an engineer my starting salary will be 65-70K. THAT is why I chose to go elsewhere.

We weren't discussing what is financially more secure here though, we were discussing job opportunities. He stated that an English Major gives you only one choice which is the farthest thing from the truth.

So... the book club?

One of my majors was English, the idea that all english majors fit under one umbrella is foolish.

With english, you make yourself. Its portfolios and talent. There aren't formulas that you can plug **** into and take home a bajillion dollars.

Its a different lifestlye. The english kids are either hungry for success or hungry for food. Its all work.

Well I think they go hand in hand, job opportunities and salary. Yes you technically have tons of options, but a lot of those "options" won't be considered by a lot of people because people don't want to live off of 20K a year.
