So I've been wondering.. do you know of Thorgal ? I wonder just how popular these comics are worldwide, they were a hit when I was young, I grew up on the adventures of the guy, most of folks from my country and generation are very familiar. There's supposedly a tv series in the works which would be awesome.
Thorgal is a child that came down from the sky, in a capsule of sorts. This is observed by the crew of a Viking longship who take it as an omen from the gods. They find the capsule with an infant inside and raise him as a viking - here's where the story starts.
I won't sum it up, but it's a great mix of many mythologies - Nordic and European at first, but as the story progresses, our hero and his family and friends visit places like south America or the inside of the earth or other bizarre places.
Here's a good review, read it.
Generally it's a really well written story that doesn't use cliches as much as you'd think it would. The plots of subsequent comic books explores a wide variety of themes, sometimes you laugh, often you cry.. sometimes you're terrified.
I can't recommend this series enough. I also know where to find it online, though I don't think I can post a link publicly, so if you're intrigued, let me know.

Edit: here's an even better review.

Quote:
Narratively, Thorgal offers the best of all amazing worlds with an ostensibly starkly historical milieu of bold Viking adventure glibly yet seamlessly encompassing chilling science fiction elements, monstrous horror, social satire, political intrigue, soap opera, Atlantean mystique and mythically mystical fantasy standards such as gods, monsters, dwarves and demons.

Never heard of it and I think it's fair to say that Thorgal never made over the pond. I'll look it up.

Do let me know what you think. I remember this through rose tinted nostalgia glasses, it was an amazing story when I was a teen. Then again, I remember being a diehard Dragonlance fan back then and now.. well
Because if it's half as good as I remember it to be, this could be another Witcher - something with a small but devoted fan base that got really popular when exposed to the rest of the world. Because the quality is there, it just lacked marketing and recognition.

Oh, Dragonlance. Yeah I had love for that when I was reading the first and second trilogies, but now it's cringey as ****, even if it's still kinda fun. Better than R.A. Salvatore at least.

And mind giving me that Thorgal online link? I'm having more trouble than usual finding it.

O.M.G. A new year and a new plethora of DC animated movies that are generally better than their live action counterparts, and I'm pretty ****ing stoked that there's gonna be a Batman and Harley Quinn movie in August that looks like an extended version of "Harlequinade" from Batman: The Animated Series (my spellcheck just informed me of the correct spelling of an episode of B:TAS, so life is good atm). Also sounds like they've got the original cast again, with the sad exclusion of Arleen Sorkin as Harley, but she's been retired from the role since the end of the DCAU as far as I know. One of the only things I ever wanted from that show was more Batman x Harley odd couple hijinks, so this is kind of a dream come true.

Omg, Batlord, apparently there's a GWAR comic. I flipped through issue 2, and saw a panel where they shove a nazi flag up hitler's asshole.

Is it Hulkling? I don't remember what race he was.
