For me:
Empire Strikes Back Revenge of the Sith Return of the Jedi A New Hope Attack of the Clones Phantom Menace I always found the expanded universe more interesting than the movies tbh

Yeah, I don't actually dislike Star Wars, there definitely is a current of self awareness underneath the cheesiness which I can appreciate and suspend my disbelief. I just couldn't understand how such an ordinary concept gained such a fanatical mass following.

Completely agree, except for Attack of the Clones was my least favorite. I prefer the little kid and cutesy approach of Phantom Menace to the sh*tty computerized action sequences and horrible acting skills of Attack of the Clones.

Star Wars was never actually anticipated to be a box office success. Science fiction films were considered dead at that point, the film was turned down by several different studios before Fox picked it up, and even then the first film was made on a relatively small budget. |

Overall, I did like the new films despite their flaws, but they obviously don't touch the original trilogy. Except I think Revenge of the Sifth was easly the best out of the 3 and was almost as good as Return of the Jedi. |

Check out the this review that Roger Ebert wrote of the first Star Wars movie back in 1977, I think it does a great job of showing exactly why it struck such a chord with people back then. Last edited by Janszoon; 12-06-2008 at 02:44 AM. |
