You knew the day would come when you had to choose...

Family Guy, by far.
|
South Park, by a little.

I haven't found South Park funny in about 10 years and even back then I didn't think it was that great.
As for Family Guy I've never found that funny at all. |
if i'm going to watch a shitty, politically crass cartoon then i'm going to watch futurama.
|
I can't watch a whole family guy episode, but some clips are pretty funny. And south park is just stupid political cartoons :D South Park easily.
|
I thought older episodes of Family Guy were pretty funny, but it's definatley not anymore.
South Park wins. But American Dad beat both by a mile. |
South Park no contest, more well written, and it's actually funny
|
South Park easily, even if this season has been crap. Early on it was just slapstick, but as it developed, there's not much which could beat its biting satire and sheer ridicule.
Family Guy can be ok but for a show so seemingly random, it is actually awfully formulaic. It's a mash-up of unrelated jokes/scenes which are mostly either flashbacks or pop-culture references. |
Yeh this season of South Park is just ****.

Personally I go with Family Guy, but just so. I think people tend to over analyze the polical aspects of the shows, after all, they can just ignore them. |

Sweet, you realize that the slew of episodes that have come out in the past 2 months are the second half of Season 12, right? Some great episodes including Tonsil Trouble, Canada on Strike, Over Logging, Major Boobage came out in the first half. Though I agree the only new one on par with those is the High School Musical one (which you apparently haven't seen), I still think they're all funny except for the Obama one and half the China problem one.
|
Southpark easily. It actually managed to evolve from a terrible cartoon based on the gimmick of being crass to one of the best (long running) satirical shows on TV.
90% of the time Family Guys devolves into endless non sequiturs and pop culture references, as if simply acknowledging they exist is the joke in itself. Damn manatees.. Quote:

But out of Family Guy and South Park I pick Family Guy. By far. |
I'm never watching TV again.

Anyway, yes Canada On Strike and Major Boobage were great, but nothing compared to older episodes. |
Have you seen the High School Musical episode of South Park? So epic.

Eh, I didn't like the Hight School Musical one that much. The role reversal was funny (a dancer wanting to play basketball), Craig's Peru line was funny too, but they really hackneyed the slapping.
|
seems to me both shows rely on the viewer being up to date on key elements to enjoy the bulk of their 'humour'
family guy requires viewers to remain current on 80s pop culture references south park requires viewers to be up to date with current affairs. i'd take south park myself. |
Glad to see most of us here are smart enough to see that South Park is by far the better show.
In my opinion it's the best television show in history. Seasons 6-9 are almost perfect. South Park, is cruder, smarter, funnier, better written has better storylines and a bigger heart then family guy. Anyone who chooses Family Guy will go onto my ignore list for a month. Quote:

Ignore away.
I love Family Guy because of the randomness, and because of how quick some of the actions actually happen. Such as, when Peter Griffin forgot how to sit down. |

I agree, I just love how random and stupid a lot of the stuff is. It's funny! |

Butters always shooting guys in the balls was hilarious though. |
South Park
I don't think this season has been all that bad, i mean come on the peruvian flute band/guinea pig cloverfield monster 2 parter had me in tears. |
I said what what in the butt.
|
do you wanna do it in my butt, in my butt?
|
Tonight's South Park was excellent. Goth Kids strike back.

They're completely different shows and other then being cartoons, theres no other reason to compare them.
I like both shows, but I think they're funny in different ways. South Park is great for it's abrasiveness and ability to tackle any issue in a hilarious and clever way. It's a great mix of stupid mayhem and satire. Family Guy is just stupid mayhem, not that there's anything wrong with that. The appeal of FG is flat out ridiculous randomness, you never knows where an episode will take you. And I like that. They're both hit and miss, again in different ways. Family Guy episodes are just loaded with jokes, some good, some horrible, every episode has both good and bad jokes, all of them deliver at least one really funny moment. South Park is hit and miss in a different way, either the whole episode will be completely sidesplittingly funny from start to finish, or it won't be funny at all, because unlike FG, a South Park episode relies on the plot to be funny. Overall I love both shows, but I'd say I like South Park more overall. |
