Eh, I think their prime lasted a little longer than that. Probably more like the first eight seasons. And if you don't care for contemporary Simpsons then I'm surprised you enjoyed the movie so much...

My problem with The Simpsons was that it tried too hard to make bit characters relevant.
There were entire episodes which made characters like Patty, Selma & Apu focal points. This really shouldn't have been the case. Homer was the big hitter, the funniest character, the most easily related to, every episode should have been about him had The Simpsons wanted to stay funnier longer. I'm not saying there weren't other funny characters, i.e. Willie, Ralf Wiggum & Grampa but the the main focus shouldn't have been shifted from Homer to his wife or kids. And, Homer and Flanders had one of the greatest animated comedy chemistries of any two cartoon characters I've seen. |

I actually thought Apu's story was pretty funny, the whole kwik-e mart singalong. |

Nothing compares to the first 10-12 years of The Simpsons, but Family Guy sucks, because Seth is a thieving hack who copies his own shows 3 times over. Only collegiate stoners who got their undies pulled up over their heads in high school find comedic value in the repetitive cutaway humor that makes up 99% of every Family Guy joke.

Old family guy, the first 5 seasons were ****ing hilarious. They're jokes are just getting plain stupid, to the point where I change the channel because I don't want to watch 3 minutes of Conway Twitty or Maneater, South Park is pretty stale too, but their always a little more entertaining to watch.

I have to agree. I still get some enjoyment out of new episodes of Family Guy but it's a little like squeezing the juice from a used lemon. It's a great show to just watch passively though. I'll turn it on when I'm working and get a chuckle out of something here and there from the cutaways, it's not like you really need to know the plot as they're pretty disposable.
South Park on the other hand I'm still finding funny. I like to keep up with the news and nearly every episode is satirical of something going on in American culture, gotta love it. |

South Park peaked during seasons 4-11 IMO, and Family Guy peaked whenever I was 15 and thought their thinly-veiled filler was funny. It has moments but its not really something I can watch for more than an hour at a time without feeling "I just saw this in the last episode".
Seth just kind or panders to the same humor that Dane Cook does. It's supposed to be funny because it's so unfunny, I guess. |

Na, I wouldn't go that far. I just think they miss the mark a lot of times in the newer episodes because they're running thin on ideas. I mean, if you do 20 cutaways a show... how many jokes can you really do?
On a side note, has anyone watched Napoleon Dynamite? It's The Simpsons with characters from the film. Very odd, but it's actually alright -- aside from the very poor voice acting by Jon Gries. |
