And no excuse. Get it sorted. (There wasn't any spelling or grammatical errors, but still.) |

The latest season of south park was poor. Only a couple of above average episodes and the rest felt like one joke retold over and over again.

The Ring and Fishsticks are right up there among South Park's best. The Whale Whores episode was pretty great too. Of what I've seen so far, this season has been a huge improvement over the last season, the only episodes from that season that were truly laugh out funny were Major Boobage and Super Fun Time, other than that it was pretty average. The writing of South Park/Family Guy doesn't get ****ter as time goes by, but people simply get bored of it. It's like that with any show, if they go over 5 series it can get a bit tedious. I've not seen the new episodes of South Park yet, not really on my list of things to do.

While South Park does use some of the cliches over and over, but it still churns out some terrific episodes even if not as often as it used to.
And while it does use cliches, the show is very aware of itself and often pokes fun of the cliche's it uses. The Pandemic episode for example poked fun of how the kids hatching some simple scheme always gets them involved in some convoluted conspiracy. And the Butt Out episode poked fun of how the adults always overreact to everything and how the kids always have to do a speech about what they learned. Another great episode is Quest for Ratings, which poked fun of Matt and Trey's struggle to come up with new ideas. I think this is one of the things that has kept South Park more funny and endearing than other long running cartoon shows. Last edited by boo boo; 11-27-2009 at 05:38 PM. |

Very often randomness can be funny. ... Just not when it's an internet meme. |

I think South Park's satirical nature gives it the edge in terms of intelligent writing, and I am not questionning that this season has provided a couple of hysterical episodes, but I think the routine of poking fun at a certain topic per episode is wearing thin. I acknowledge that Trey and Matt are self-aware and often include jokes at their own expense, but I sort of miss the South Park that relied upon nothing but imagination and crudeness to provide the laughter and not real-life events. It is especially disappointing to watch the satire become lazy, as was the case with episodes such as WTF.
Family Guy is extremely hit and miss but on a good episode it can be absolutely hilarious, whilst The Simpsons has attempted to modernise itself and strayed away from the subtle humour that once made it so endearing. I still prefer South Park but all 3 shows have passed their prime in my opinion.

I completely agree, random is certainly not bad. Random plays a large part in some of the most hilarious memories I have.
