I really don't care for either...

Zer0 11-20-2008 03:32 AM

Why cant we have a poll. Anyway Family Guy for me. It's way funnier and way more intellegent than South Park will ever be :D

Seltzer 11-20-2008 04:35 AM

Haha the new ep is great... "You can't ground me! For I am neither living nor dead. How can thy ground that which is ungroundable?"

kthedrummer 11-20-2008 05:37 AM

I love both of these shows...that said I find South Park pretentious as it feels we all need to be taught a lesson which may or may not be true...Family Guy is a little less heavy but often uses itself as a venue for personal attacks on the right wing...which is also OK with me. South Park has many classic episodes the Guitar Hero one is priceless and being a Star Wars fan I love the Blue Harvest episodes of Family Guy.

But thats the problem, it isn't random and I know exactly where each episode will take me. All the jokes consist of someone making a slightly dumb comment and then a quick cut to a poorly done pop culture reference. Ad infinitum and you have Family Guy in its entirity. If you've seen half an episode you've seen pretty much everything the show has ever offered.

Edit: South Park is randomly funny but I don't feel like watching 30 crap episodes to get to the 1 good episode. Choosing between the two the 1 randomly good SP episode per season will get me to side with SP.

If I had to choose one over the other, I'd pick South Park.
Family Guy can be really funny, however at times, totally over-done.

Does anyone remember the super super old episodes, where Trey and Matt would have on screen time and do stupid things? I'm thinking of Making Bacon with Macon? They feed bacon to a pig? And make bacon casserole?! (Amazing - who doesn't love bacon?)

FOR REAL?!
Some of them were so funny.

I find this season absolutely amazing.
High School Musical.
The Twilight episode?! C'mon? SO GOOD.

Mr Sensitive 11-20-2008 03:33 PM

Family Guy, I like it when they break into song and dance.

DearJenny 11-20-2008 03:56 PM

I love shock value and South Park has more of that.

And its just funnier.

Family Guy started out pretty cool, but got really really lame.

anticipation 11-20-2008 04:01 PM

they have the best non-sequiters on television, i'll give them that.

Angel's Punishment 11-23-2008 03:05 PM

SOUTH PARK! It never fails to lift my mood.

dac 11-23-2008 04:18 PM

South Park gets so ****ing preachy sometimes. I love em both but I'll have to go Family Guy.

khfreek 11-23-2008 08:52 PM

South Park trys to force the episode's lesson down your throat? I don't see it.

South Park wins.

But American Dad beat both by a mile.

All American Dad is, is a blatant unfunny copy of family guy. But hey if you like it;)

Veronica Lodge 11-24-2008 11:26 AM

American Dad isn't even funny.

The only great line they ever had was in the first episode where that alien thing said that the mom was being a real "See You Next Tuesday".

That's all they had.

guitargirl_93 11-24-2008 02:15 PM

I think I'll have to say...Maybe I like...No...Th........

AHHHHHH I CAN'T CHOOSE.

Family guy has alot of things that just turn classic as soon as you see them.

FaSho 11-24-2008 03:01 PM

The lines you are speaking of are the ones that are funny the first time so they use it in every other episode.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-24-2008 10:22 PM

That's called a running gag me boy.

FaSho 11-25-2008 06:53 AM

Peter falling down and going "ssssss...oww" for 2 minutes is not funny. So it's not a "gag".

it's still a gag and but yeah got old quick. So did the Chicken fight.

DearJenny 11-25-2008 07:23 AM

^The chicken fight annoys the hell outta me. How many times has that occured? Three for sure....possibly four? Or more!?

right, which is why i picked SP.

FG and AD are lame-o.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-25-2008 10:27 AM

I actually love the Chicken Fight...

One thing that does annoy me about Family Guy is over syndication. I end up watching the same episodes over and over again!

DearJenny 11-25-2008 10:31 AM

^Damn Adult Swim, amirite?

someonecompletelyrandom 11-25-2008 10:55 AM

uRrite. That and TBS.

FaSho 11-25-2008 01:00 PM

Adult Swim has some good shows too. Venture Bros. The Boondocks, ATHF, are on key. And Frisky Dingo, Robot Chicken and Metalocalypse all have their moments.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-25-2008 01:01 PM

I love Robot Chicken... anyone catch the latest Star Wars special?

FaSho 11-25-2008 01:02 PM

Not the second one. If it's as good as the first I know I'll like though.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-25-2008 01:50 PM

It's not as good but it's still pretty darn funny. They really expand on the Darth Vader/Emporer Palpatine skits as well as featuring Boba Fett alot more.

boo boo 11-26-2008 10:53 AM

Once again they're both hit and miss in different ways.

At least FG's hits and misses are always in the contents of one episode. South Park episodes are either a complete hit or a complete miss.

MURDER JUNKIE 11-26-2008 11:28 AM

I enjoy South Park because Cartman is a genius but Family Guy gets high marks simply because of the episode with Cobra Commander

Give an example of a south park miss, maybe the jackovasaur episode but even that was stupid funny.

Problem I have with Family guy is it's lazy much less intelligent humor.

People say things like "remember the one where stewie went to the fridge for some sunny dor when peter was the blue guy from tron" etc etc etc.

The plot is irrelevant and that's lazy, doen't mean it's not funny, it's jut not high quality.

South Park is the smartest show in the history of TV by a long shot.

khfreek 11-26-2008 02:49 PM

Uh... smartest show in the history of TV? I like the show, but the satire and plots aren't THAT complex...

Fairly impressive for a show that is intellectually bankrupt.

you should probably rewatch some of those really early seasons before making a claim like that. especially when the pointiest aspect of their wit was...

OH MY GOD THEY KILLED KENNY!!!

the show only really started getting intellectual once they seemed to actively start following in norman lear's footsteps around 2002. it might be one of the smartest shows on tv today, but it certainly is not 'the' smartest show in the history of tv.

Your definitely underestimating the early stuff, but yes it was raw and more abrasive. I also agree 2002 is when they turned it up and Lear is a fair comparison, there is some of that there to be sure.

I stand by my statement, no show prior to the last 15 years even belongs in the discussion, TV was awful in retrospect, but that's to be expected we we've still learning the medium.

Almost every bit of dialog in South Park is metaphor or satire, it's so careful and composed and yet they stay so ahead of current events. They handle every major issue with incredible honesty, humanity and insight and they still keep it the most over the top immature show on TV. That type of of self effacing humility in the face of such blindingly brilliant commentary is unheard of...So sayeth the Spider.
