i never said short games were bad games, i said it was a cash grab and an inferior product (for the price point). the VAST majority of console games i play now are short download only titles. i'm loving the re-shelled TMNT on the PS3, i can pick it up for 20 minutes and walk away.

but it was $10 - new

your examples all sold for $60+ new. cash grabs.

as for 20 year old games. they didn't candy coat everything to appease the generation of kids who've had everything spoonfed to them (nevermind that you can't write using a pen by the end of highschool, we can't fail you because it might be detrimental to your self-esteem, hope you don't get a job that requires you to ever write anything someone else might have to read). unlimited continues was rarely heard of and just getting extra continues was something you unlocked using a cheat code, that you had to find in a magazine - IF you got lucky.

the idea that they couldn't / didn't pack a game with content 20 years ago is absurd. all the art assets might not have been pre-rendered high def images and the cutscenes might have looked like comic book panels instead of hollywood staffed CGI scenes but the actual game content was most definitely there - in spades.

Just like how your standard 360 fanboy hasn't played a lot of Nintendo games but of course that dosen't stop them from talking sh*t about them either. And yeah, I have a serious bias against modern gamers, I won't lie.

And it has a lot to do with their lack of respect or understanding of where and how the video game industry started. If they prefer the "hardcore" FPS experience to old school platforming, more power to them. But I'd respect them more if they didn't bitch so much about how Nintendo and Sega only make "kiddie" games. It's those kiddie games that built the whole foundation of console gaming.
Boo Boo, your taking these people waaaay to personally. So they don't like your Blue Hedgehog, is it really that big of a deal?

Couldn't tell you, never played single player halo. I was just trying to point out how equally monotonous some of nintendo's franchises are.

Yeah, I'd rather play games that don't shout stupid obscenities and homophobic slurs at me, thank you.
How many games have you played online? You have all these generalizations for non "old school" gamers its outrageous.

Sure, a lot of the kids online are like that, but you can always mute them or kick them. After a while you start meeting people you do enjoy playing with, and get this, you can add them (without friend codes) and then only play with them if you wanted to.

I really wish you'd get another console and just try some new games, i guarantee you'll find plenty to like.

I'm not saying they couldn't pack content, I'm just saying that because of the technical limitations, very few of them take more than an hour to beat on a speed run (that is if you're a pro), aside from the RPGs and a big part of that was because of all the backtracking involved.

I do have to say though, while I like hard games, I like that games now have unlimited continues, I mean the lack of continues that some old games had was just freaking ridiculous.

I'm used to the hedgehog hate by now.

But when people diss the plumber and the man in green, it just reeks of fanboy desperation.

You don't know what monotonous means. So all the zelda games hold some traditions like having to find certain weapons, exploring and uncovering weapons is part of those games fun factor and if you think the Halo series has made more leaps with every sequel than Zelda has, you clearly have a screw loose.

I haven't, I like to play games with actual people. And when I think of fun social gaming, I think of playing Mario Kart with a buddy or two or three while on the couch while eating pizza snacks. Not sitting on a computer being subjected to idiotic insults and horrifically unfunny memes by total f*ckwads, I get enough of that here.

Well. I do badly want a Dreamcast.

Games lose a certain quality when they are played online. Sure, it works well for some, but I've got some very fond memories of just playing video games with friends. I could turn around to my friends and say "hey, remember that day in summer where we just sat in and played Tekken" and they'd know exactly what I meant and we could look back on it with a nostalgic smile. You can't say that about sitting down in your bedroom, by yourself, talking through a headset and playing matchmaking with a group of people you don't know but you hate already.

I'm glad Nintendo haven't jumped on the bandwagon and only selectively choose which games to take online. I'm glad the new Super Mario Bros. isn't going to be online. If you really want to play it with your friends, then you'll all have to get your Wiimote and cart yourself down your friends house and make some memories that don't involve a wireless connection.

You could argue that Halo has.

Zelda has been pretty much the same since ocarina.

Yes, how you travel is different, the visuals are different. But the progression follows a formula that is almost exactly the same every time, do i still love it? yes! Is it totally predictable? yes!

I'm not even going to argue with your multiplayer comment. I think your part of the same group you dislike so much

I got The Force Unleashed for €30. A reasonable price for a quality game.

We can't have both? Your actually glad that they chose to NOT include a feature?

So if i wanna enjoy NSMB with a friend who lives in a different country, tough ****?

You guys are painting online gamers as being antisocial freaks, it's dope to be able to play with friends i can't see regularly.

I was an online gamer myself. I enjoyed it very much. A lot of my friends still are. I'm saying that some games don't need an online feature, they'll force people to play the game in a social environment. Let's face it, if two friends have super mario bros wii and a Wifi connection, they arent going to travel to each others houses to play it. But if the function isn't included, it'll force people to play socially. Which I think can only be a good thing for certain types of games.

However, in the case of some games such as FPS', I think an online feature is now almost necessary because split-screen is an incredibly awkward and frustrating way to play.

Absolutely not. Every Zelda game has something unique about it. Majoras Mask had the masks and that wonderful sense of impending doom. Twilight Princess has the Wolf segments and wiimote controls. The Wind Waker had the cell shading and sailing elements and while you could call those gimmicks they did give the game a very unique personality and feel. The Minish Cap had the shrinking elements. Four Swords had the 4 player co op. Phantom Hourglass had the stylus controls. They may not be super drastic changes in your opinion but the point is each game had a feature or two unique to that title and that title alone.

Unlike Bungie who just re-release the same game but with added content.

Well, instead of bringing up Halo again I'll just talk about FPS games as a whole because it's all very damn redundant. Aside from coming up with some very creative weapons and upping the online multiplayer features, there's not a whole lot of innovation being made in terms of the core gameplay. In the end the goal is always the same, shoot everything that moves and.... well that's pretty much it.
