I'm playing Splatoon 2. I never tried the first one. It is okay but I really suck at it still. The solo missions are okay but this game is really about the multiplayer. I'm still trying to figure out which weapons I am most comfortable with. So far Dualies has been my go to.

Has anybody played the new Mass Effect? I read that in some places it is being sold at 50-60% of its original price. I don't buy new games that often, but that seems like a steep price cut for a game released just a couple months ago.

After all the patches, it's actually a fun game. Not a good Mass Effect, but a fun game with a lot to do, very well done combat and pretty visuals (not counting a handful of characters that look odd still).
If you played the original Mass Effect games and would like something as emotionally involving, or you're looking for a plot that's similarly deep - you won't find it here. But if you want a fun and often silly space opera with a lot of well done shooting and dodging, some interesting quests and some interesting characters - you'll enjoy it.
It's a bit like Fallout 4 - a really good shooter with rpg elements, but not a good fallout game.

I've seen some gameplay, and it definitely looks fun to actually play, but I suspect that the static, playdough faces would drive me crazy after a while. I don't know how they so royally ****ed up facial expressions on a Mass Effect game when it's always been one of the series strengths.

Don't get me started on the faces.. the worst thing, by far absolutely worst, is not these animations and expressions - they did a really good job fixing that, the vast majority of issues you can see on youtube are now fixed.
The most.. atrocious, lazy, I don't know what word to use, the worst decision was to give EVERY SINGLE ASARI EXCEPT FOR PEE BEE THE SAME GOD DAMNED FACE. Not similar faces, the same ****i*g model. Now that's some quality sh*t.
And the faces look a bit worse than they did in mass effect 3 (and i replayed it after finishing Andomeda for a direct comparison) but they're not as bad as you might think - most are done pretty well, and you don't have to deal with Director Addison (by far the worst model here) too often

It's sad when the second game in a series of four has the best character animations. I seriously miss Femshep's filthy smirk.

I think the wonky facial animations came as a result of the brilliant idea to switch over from the Unreal engine to the Frostbyte engine halfway through production of the game. I know EA poured a lot of money into it, and it is quite an impressive and well optimized engine that works on a wide variety of machines with differing power, but I feel like that sudden change screwed the animators a little who took a lot more shit than I think they deserved.

Why do companies do these kinds of things? I honestly do not entirely get it. Do they not have a near infinite number of examples of company ****ery ruining countless games that might otherwise have been solid? I know the bean counters probably just can't grasp the idea that their business degree is not relevant to making a game, but you'd think they'd learn from the sheer abundance of catastrophes to leave well enough alone.
