Well, yet another sliver of my life has just slipped away. I've finally used Steam for the first time and got Civ IV with all the add-on packs for less than eight bucks. Nice knowing ya'll.

OMG I forgot just how much fun it was to just sit there like a crazy person in Civilization and just analyze squares without blinking to figure out the perfect place to put a city: this square is next to some sweet, sweet production, but the square just below it has only slightly less production, but is at a more strategic position, and once its culture has increased then it won't really matter, so it's a no-brainer, really.
Yeah.

Everytime i play Civilization i always focus in developing my capital city but i always end up making another city that always ends up with more resources. Of all the versions ive played of civilization, i find the ps1 version is the most challenging one, even if you play it on chieftain at one point you always run outta money.

A.) My main experience with the game is a dumbed-down port for the 360, so I have a tendency to not plan out my tech strategy, and just kind of go with the stuff that'll take the least amount of time. B.) Since I only know how to play the stripped-down version, I'm not adept at micro-managing my cities and infrastructure. So, while I just took half the Persian empire in three turns, thereby doubling the size of my own, my capital city is starving... even though it's otherwise the best city on the map. My other cities are fine, though. Even the underdeveloped Persian conquests are coming along. But Batlordopolis is in a state of crisis.

I haven't played that port but i relate to problem B cause it has happened to me and at times and i didn't know how to fix it. ive tried irrigating the nearby fields and my ppl were still starving. other times i would fix the whole thing by adding a sea port or something like that.
regarding problem A, i always prioritize discovering the wheel, forging steel, discovering powder and creating automobiles cause all those thing lead up to a tank. sometimes you gotta think about your long term goals and which discovery will lead to a more useful one instead of just picking the quickest one. i find that no every port of civilization plays the same and usually i develop a good strategy after ive played the game for at least 2 full games. it's all trial & error at first.
