The ending really got to me

Spoiler for spoilers for game ending:
I really liked how they made you march towards your execution pole while the character narrated his final letter to his daughter. I was actually tearing up, and a little surprised because I figured the game would kill Walt instead.

Definitely Ubisoft's best game from last year.

Playing Vicity game right now. Basically I enjoy this a lot.

Great game. Arguably the best in the series, despite the cops being super annoying.

I'm playing about an hour of it most days now and yes agree its probably the most immersive experience in the whole GTA series so far.

I saw that the developers want to base the next game on Chicago, personally I'd think it would be more exciting if they went with something different like a Southern city.

Valiant Hearts - The Great War

I got this game towards the end of last year even though I was interested in it upon release, but not so interested that I wanted to drop $15 on what I figured would be a fun 3 hour experience. Turns out it was actually a fun 6 hour experience that does a pretty good job of showcasing the horrors of war but not in a brutal and completely disturbing way that could alienate younger players. It also has my favorite type of logic based puzzles where I get to feel really clever after solving them quickly so it has that going for it too. The story does seem to rely a little too much on convenient encounters when taking place during a time of great upheaval but the characters are all likeable and their motives are all relatable and tragic. The game does a really good job of not making anyone out to be a badguy, well at least everyone who isn't the mad Baron who wears a skull on his cap but even he just gets beaten up on-top of a tank and then demoted for incompetence.

World War I is a war very infrequently showcased in video games, and when it does it's either as a multiplayer shooter or as a grand strategy game, neither of which do a great job of just showing how messed up and horrible that war really was. I dunno if Valiant Hearts - The Great War is the ideal game to really go into what WWI was all about, but it's definitely the best attempt so far. If you like sidescrolling puzzle games with a big heart, likeable characters, and a dog, then I'd definitely say give this one a try.

Oh I forgot to mention that there's a ton of historical facts brought up throughout the game, some of which I knew and many of which I didn't. They don't just focus on the big things, but like I learned that soldiers would wear their used mess tins around their kidneys to help them survive shrapnel from shells and grenades and the like. It's those kind of little details that really help make the world more convincing and gives it a real sense of authenticity. They also include photos from the war that have been colorized, so that was pretty cool too.

Thanks for highlighting this, I fancied playing this game some time ago but completely forgot about it until you mentioned it here.

As you say WWI hardly ever gets featured in video games, from the looks of the game cover is your character a French soldier?

Still playing Witcher 3 and it's fun how Skellige borrows from Norway in culture, place names, mythology .. Even Fyresdal where I went camping in my youth is a Skellige village. They pronounce it a bit weird, though.

You actually play as 4 protagonists throughout the game, but Emile (the character pictured on the front) is French. The others are Karl, Emile's son-in-law who get deported and then drafted in the German army, Freddie, an African-American living in France who volunteers for the French army after a tragedy happens, and Anna, a Belgian medical student and army nurse.

Anyhoo, been playing this all weekend because apparently I'm a 16 year old girl.

Life is Strange

I generally shy away from episodic games while still in development, however I had a coupon on top of a discount so I got it at a very good price. It's your standard Telltale episodic game, however there are sort-of puzzles in it and you can reverse time. That last part is very interesting because it means that whenever you have to make a big decision that will affect the outcome of the story, you can reverse time and experience what the other option could be and then decide from there. It's pretty neat because I can get an idea of what would be different if I chose A instead of B without having to replay the game or episode from the beginning.

The story is Juno-hipsterey as fuck and does a very good job conveying that teenage girls are nature's greatest monsters, but the mystery and plot are intriguing enough to make up for the high school cliches. I'm not a teenager anymore but I do think I'm young enough to have some vague idea of what they sound like, and to the game's credit it does seem authentic there.

My only real complaint is that the visuals can seem a little weirdly inconsistent at times with some things given a deliberate cartoon-y art style and others just feeling like the textures never loaded. Also while the voice acting is pretty decent, I haven't seen lip syncing this bad since Alan Wake. The character's mouths just kind of stay open and occasionally move up and down with no real correlation to the sounds coming out of the characters mouths.

If anyone male does decide to check this game out the advice I can give so far is that during a very important event in episode 2, DO NOT THINK LIKE A GUY. You cannot address the core of the problem, but rather the emotions surrounding it.

Let's hope they live up to the hype.

Well it seems that the game is French orientated which makes it even more interesting to play and this game is now a cert on my list.

Have you played either The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us from Telltale games?

Well it's made by Ubisoft, a French company, however they do show British battles like the Battle of the Somme and Canadian battles like Vimy Ridge, so it's pretty inclusive for the Western Front.

And yes, although I haven't finished TWAU or TWD Season 2 and it's because of that I don't like buying episodic games before they are finished. It's really hard to keep up the suspense and interest when you have to wait two or three months between each episode. I mean one of the more recent Telltale series, Tales from the Borderlands had a 4 month gap between episode 1 and episode 2, that's just a little too long for me. I treat these games like I would be bingewatching a TV series on Netflix, just something to do over the course of an afternoon, like what I did with TWD Season 1.

The Darkness II

I bought this because it was super cheap and the reviews and rating both look rather positive. I've played the first couple minutes and it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun to play. It seem like it may be easier to play it with a controller, but I can get used to the controls pretty easily with a mouse. It is the second game in the series, but it does allow me to watch what happens in the first game before I even start playing so that I can get caught up with the story. It's basically just an overall linear gore-fest and i'm pretty stoked to play through it. The graphics style is also pretty sweet but they seem a tad bit dated. That could just be my imagination though.
