I've been interested in this one, far more so than Assassin's Creed Unity and I was quite happy when Ubisoft said you wouldn't need that game to play it. I've heard it's like a 2.5D version of Mark of the Ninja which I quite enjoyed, and it actually gives you a chance to be an assassin rather than an attention grabbing murder machine.

I'd still prefer a full 3D game set in Feudal Japan though, I think it would be an excellent time period to mine for history, and be a way to show off bright vibrant colours with the new generation of consoles.

Go back and play it on an emulator. That game is all kinds of amazing.

Are you kidding me? All they did was take Saints Row 2, destroy every character that was even remotely likable (Shaundi gets turned into a generic kidnap-magnet, Pierce loses his personality and quirks, and Gat is removed from the game entirely), gut all of the humor and replace it with fart and sex jokes, rip out all of the good music and replace it with songs that are infinitely more boring and generic, replace the awesome gangs and leaders/lieutenants with forgettable stereotypes, destroy character customization by lumping all clothing into rigid categories that can't be layered (ala the transition from Morrowind to Skyrim), take out the second game's shooting mechanics (which were twitchy, but at least worked) and replace it with mechanics that are somehow even more poor and touchy, and all of that's not even mentioning...

You know what? **** it. If I don't stop myself here, i'm just going to keep going forever. That's how much ammunition I have against this ****ing horrible game. Saints Row 2 wasn't perfect, but at least it managed to move past it's "GTA clone" roots and have a personality of it's own. It had it's own style of humor and it's own cast of characters, without feeling the need to overcompensate by throwing sex jokes at the player every five seconds, as if to say "OH MY GOD, YOU'RE NAKED, ISN'T THAT FUNNY? LOLOLOLOLOL. OH LOOK, A FLOPPY ***** YOU CAN HIT PEOPLE WITH, ISN'T THAT FUNNY? LOLOLOLOL. Buy all of the DLC."

And you know what? Everyone, including the developers, knew that Saints Row had lost it's soul. There's a reason why Saints Row 3 sold much worse than Saints Row 2, and why fans consistently rate it as the worst game in the series (right alongside the first game). That's why the fourth game basically backpedaled and reversed everything in three, giving the fans what they want by bringing back Gat, and the old-school version of Shaundi, as well as toning down the in-your-face humor (even though it's probably the most absurd game to date, in terms of premise) and actually having some wit and wordplay every now and then.

you aren't the first i've heard compare it to Mark of the Ninja. i've always though it reminded me more of one of the classic Price of Persia games.

if Ubisoft have their way, this will most likely never happen.

i've read articles saying they apparently don't want to do Japan because Ninja Assassins would be too clichéd.

i would be happier with a full 3D game with Shao Jun as the main character (either set prior to Embers or between Embers and Chronicles: China)

Shaundi they didn't do so great with, I don't even really remember Pierce being that great in the first place, and they gave us Kinzie, one of the all-time best characters of the series. Did miss Gat though.

The dildo comment makes me think you get your opinions second hand, as that's one of those things that fan critics zero in on for some reason. I chuckled once at the dildo bat and then forgot it ever existed, and yet all the people who hated the game just can't get enough of it.

That game had me dying laughing pretty much the whole time, so clearly this is a case of personal taste in humor and not quality.

All of the SR games have had perfectly fine music. Don't know what you're whining about.

I'll give you that, though S.T.A.G. was amazing. And I have love for Matt Miller if for no other reason than the computer simulation mission.

There wasn't really any difference in how they did clothing in 2 and 3. Like, not at all. Perhaps you're having an aneurysm. And the clothing choices were far improved in 3, so suck it.

What I miss is not having to tediously buy each version of each garment separately (which was introduced in 2). The first game's closet system was by far the best.

Again, don't know what you're going on about. I never had any problem with the shooting mechanics. Maybe you just suck.

No, 2 started to have a personality of its own because it became progressively more absurd as each storyline advanced, until you're having a monster truck battle and jumping off a skyscraper onto a helicopter (or however that last mission went). But it was still GTA's ugly kid brother.

The third just upped the ante, as I expected it would given the change in tone in 2.

No it didn't, it sold much more. Best source for 2 I can find is Wikipedia, which says 3.5 million, while both Gamespot and IGN confirm that 3 sold well over five million. Way to be provably wrong.

That is bull****. There is no unified SR fanbase. There are the people who prefer the first two games (i.e. the people who should really just go play GTA already) and the others (like me) who love 3 and 4 for their OTT absurdity and toilet humor.

I don't even know how to respond to that. The game was one long, dumb pop culture joke. How it "toned down" I have no idea.

Don't have a computer I can play games on, but I highly doubt you're going to put me off a game that lets me be a crimelord superhero.

I'm not fronting. I have the game too. It's fun, but The Crew is more fun.

Ive never played the crew but i have SR 2 & 3 and they're both great.

Im glad SR has taken the overpowered silly route, that's what makes it a fun alternative to Gta that takes itself very seriously. i have Gta 5 too and it's f*ckin great, especially now that they added heists but SR doesn't need that cause it makes up for it in sheer outrageousness.

SR2 was still trying to be a GTA4 clone although it did enough to set apart the SR franchise as something different.

SR2 is all the fun of Gta3 & 4 condensed but SR 3 is a totally different game and you know it from the 1st mission.
