Shinryaku! Ika Musume was probably one of the last shows I finished watching while it was ongoing. I stopped watching animu around 2012/2013 maybe? |

This War of Mine Press F to Pay Respects this is not. While many games in recent years have at least started to point out the horrors of war, it almost always seems to be disingenuous when the same characters have to commit the horrible acts. That's kind of the weird paradox gaming is in right now, people want to have games say something about the increasing levels of violence, but they also want to have their wiz-bang shooty fun. This War of Mine decides to shift the focus from soldiers, mercenaries, or otherwise war prepped individuals to regular people just trying to survive. That's already an interesting hook, but the gameplay and morality is really where the game shines, because the game constantly presents you with scenarios that you have no idea how to react to. For example in my first playthrough I came across a solider about to rape a woman, I decided to kill the soldier, both out of anger for his actions but I also wanted a gun to help defend my shelter from looters. For killing him, I became a sort of hero around the community, but because of my fame, the military raided it and killed three of my survivors, while my last was out scavenging for supplies, he later committed suicide out of grief. It's not a fun game, but it is the most compelling thing I've played all year. |

I bought The Last Of Us. I was going to wait until the price went down a bit as I'm not a massive gamer but there's too much hype for this game.
Anyone who's played it, how good is it? |

I bought a PS3 in January for the sole purpose of playing that game, but I had a bitch of a time dealing with the frame rate so I think I'm going to buy a PS4 sometime next year and pick up the remastered version instead. It's definitely a very compelling game, but between sub 30 FPS and weirdly unresponsive controls I found the game to be hard to get far into.

I'm glad they delivered what they promised they would, they didn't compromise for a broad audience. Last game that delivered similar emotions (I think, as I haven't played this war of mine yet) was Spec Ops: the line. And I loved the game, even though I sort of hated myself after completing it, for what happened and what I've done. Powerful stuff. |

If you liked Spec Ops: the Line then you'll definitely like this, and Steam just started their Fall sale which has the game marked down with a 10% discount so it's definitely worth picking up. Even at the full $20, it's well worth the money. In some ways I find it superior to Spec Ops because it's actively forcing you to make decisions which you know aren't right, but you need to to survive, whereas Spec Ops was more of a commentary on the state of modern war in gaming, and using the players unquestioning commitment to the formula as proof to the weirdly psychological abnormalities that come up when gaming.

Been playing the hell out of GTAV...I kinda stopped playing GTA after GTAIII out of lack of interest. I played Red Dead Redemption a while back and loved the hell out of it so I thought I might give GTA another shot sometime. Well, I finally got around to it. I figured if the game was popular enough to inspire people to buy it twice for a FPS mode, it must have something going for it. Yeah, it's an addictive game.
Anyone play Dark Souls II? I bought it because I heard it was hard as **** and I really enjoy a challenging game. However, this hasn't been fun challenging. This has just been dumb challenging. Your character can't move very quickly and almost everything can kill you in 1 or 2 hits. Now, if the moves were there and the game was challenging because it requires super hand eye coordination, that's one thing. But it seems winning a boss battle in this game is based on sheer luck and patience. That's just dumb. Am I missing something?
