For some people. Having the challenge of beating the game without grinding is appealing. I've managed to do this here and there. But I find more pleasure in being so powered up. That the bosses aren't much different than an ordinary enemy out in the field.

I wanna go play Chrono Trigger.

But what's the point in doing a boss fight if it doesn't feel like a boss fight? I personally prefer to be challenged and work my way up to be able to beat that one boss, and not grind to the point that im overpowered for the rest of the game.

The point is knowing I'm capable of overcoming anything that I encounter. I like feeling in complete control of the outcome of a battle. Every now and then, I deliberately cap myself so I know things I'm to face later on in a game won't be easily overcome. I like that rush I get from taking something powerful down, all the while being inferior as far as level or character stats go.

I suppose. I'm more of a "learn the tactics of the enemy" kind of guy. Where I fight them enough times that I can kind of learn what to do and what not to do to deal more damage as an obviously weaker character. I always seem to rush right to a boss battle be it in an rpg or mmo, and I'm never prepared.

There's a certain appeal to an unknown outcome when rushing on to fight a boss like that. I do that sometimes, but my results might be different than yours; seldom will I be defeated, usually I always come out the victor. I have family and friends that say I'd be ruthlessly cunning if I ever were part of an actual war. In high school. I was this 100 pound skinny kid listening to Linkin Park all the time. I got challenged by the schools best wrestler, who was also sort of a bully. I never really watched any wrestling matches at my school. But I thought I'd maybe put the guy in his place, obviously he thought his size and experience meant he'd easily pin me...

This guy gave away every single thing he went to try on me to get me on the mat. I planted the guys face to the mat in about 2 minutes, after toying around with him. I got in trouble because I nearly managed pulling his arm out of socket from bending it behind his back. I was barely 100 pounds, and I brought a nearly 200 pound wrestler to his knees.

I'm with Ki on this.. I never enjoy being OP in a game. I'd rather be challenged.

Hearthstone Naxx Heroic mode is fulfilling this desire nicely atm.

Too easy.

Pfft... The amount of gaming I did at one point is embarrassing (as in 100+ DAYS played in the first year WoW was released and that was just one character). Pretty hard to find a challenging game in the genres I enjoy. Fortunately, I got over my gaming addiction and have a life now with no loss of social skills! My gaming reflexes have gone down though :(

Wiseass :D

I'm sure that when I have kids. Likelihood of my gaming time declining is pretty much assured. But for now. I will keep my skill honed, sharp as a blade.

Anyone want chicken pot pie soup? Too bad! It's all mine. Homemade food is best. I won't share!

You can tell the man has good taste cause he placed Suikoden 2 in the 1st spot. lol
cause seriously Suikoden 2 is really good, i had the good fortune of owning it in my ps1 days and it was a great game.

Wait, DC version?

You know the GC version has a bunch of extra content and a lower random encounter rate, right?
