omg I did! Haven't watched it yet. I find a time when I am in the mood for a movie, usually within a week of receiving it in the mail.

Yeah these games are timeless. I'm almost 25 and I've had my snes since I was 9, and my 64 since I was 10 or 11..and still play them more than any other game. Some of the games like Mario World I've beaten countless times. You're right man these games really are timeless..that's why they've held up so well, after 20 and in some cases almost thirty years

It's a pretty damn huge game for it's time, it definitely takes a while if you're trying to get every single exit like you said. There are so many secrets littered throughout the game, so many different ways to finish the levels.

Yeah for real man! These games are always going to be good, no matter what. They have held up so well, and it's like even playing them now it still as refreshing and fun to play as it was the first time many moons ago.

We need a classic gaming thread in here somewhere, I can talk about the golden age for days

I've also played 2 and 3. Of those two, I really appreciated 3 for the direction they took the gameplay, and the complex story, that tied in really well with history. Even if some of the bosses were a bit over the top cartoonish, I still loved some of them, like the Sorrow and the Boss. In fact, while MGS1 may be my favorite. 3 has my favorite ending. If I watch that ending, more likely than not I'll cry.

"Snake, history will ever know what she did. No one will ever learn the truth. Her story... her debriefing, will endure only in your heart [...]She was a true patriot"

So powerful.

ps I tried to hide that with spoiler tags but idk how, cause i'm still a n00b. So i cut it down, a bit, trying to take out spoilery things

I never had a Ps3 so I haven't played 4 yet unfortunately. I'm such a sucky MGS fan haha :[
I love how the Metal Gear series has gone from such humble beginnings where you are essentially just a dude sneaking around to complete a mission to this crazy interconnected and deep storyline spanning the entire 20th century. I used to play hooky from school and I would play the original MGS all day...I could beat it in one sitting. I downloaded it off the PS network a few months ago and I still remember everything about it...like riding a bike.

There probably would have been more if Hideo could have fit them on the discs (after all... It was 2 discs for an 8 hour game). Still, even if you didn't like that I think the gameplay mechanics for Guns of the Patriots are the best... The octocamo thing was genius and made the whole thing very smooth.

There's still plenty of story in Peace Walker, but I think you'll probably like it because its toned down a lot (but again... Probably just because Hideo couldn't fit anymore onto a PSP disc). My only complaint about that one is the missions got a bit repetitive. You definitely need to play it before 5 comes out, though... It sets up a great deal.
The MGS series in many ways mirrors the Resident Evil games, which from a basic storyline turns into a OTT complex storyline that probably even confuses the game's designers. You're certainly right about the MGS and its limitations with discs, it was quite a few years later when Sons of Liberty came out on the PS2.

Also I'm looking forward to reading the two digital interactive comics which came with the games and had previously only been released in Japan based on MGS and Sons of Liberty.

The MGS bosses have always been a bit like super villain type enemies from a Marvel of DC comic.

I really wish I could have gotten into No More Heroes though, but I just could not get the hang of the Wiimote and as such couldn't get past one of the bosses. One of these days I'll get a non-retarded controller for the Wii just so I can say I beat it. Are you excited for his new game, Killer Is Dead?
This is actually my first Suda51 game, and I've only seen snippets of Killer is Dead so I can't really judge until I see more of it. I definitely want to try No More Heroes too, and I hear the 2nd one isn't bad either and is available for 360 and PS3, so I'll look into that.

But yeah, once you do get past the first level the game really opens up and you kind of get into a good groove with it. It's funny too cause I borrowed the game from a friend and when I hung out with him the other day he admitted that he didn't make it past the first level himself.

It took me awhile to beat the first level too, mostly just because I had no idea as to what the hell was going on. By the time I found the severed head that gave me the ring to start fires to beat that weird puzzle I was just kind of going with it. Don't feel too compelled to try and figure out the plot on your first go, I've beaten that game at least 5 times and I only have a cursory understanding of what it's about.
