After a five-month hiatus due to being abroad for a semester, I'm finally returning home on Saturday and one of the things I look forward to most is ditching this POS, 5-year-old, Acer-actually-a-notebook-but-shitty-enough-to-be-a-netbook that has a faulty power supply cord, about 1mb of RAM (such that I cannot watch things on Youtube without video AND audio stutter, even if all other programs are closed), and most aggravatingly, a mystifyingly uneven bottom surface such that the whole damn thing wobbles when I type.

And once I'm back on my dearly beloved desktop, after transferring all the pictures I've taken and music I've downloaded, I'm going to get back into the game of my childhood, Counterstrike.

You see, the newest iteration, Global Offensive, was released toward the end of August, and ever since I've been sating my addiction by watching livestreams of competitive matches and tournaments. Finally I can get off the spectator's bench and jump into the twitch-reaction, legacy-as-****, skill-ceiling-higher-than-Snoop-Lion goodness of CS.

I'm going to get my ass whooped (which, considering I have a decade of experience, is kind of sad, but such is CS) and it's going to be fun.

Yeah, I remember getting that email and got the two games for free as well. Not sure what the issue is but some people say it can go away after a while so I guess I'll just try a bit later.

So, Journey was incredible. Definitely something you have to experience if you've got a PS3. Time flew by when I was playing it, and it only took me an hour and a half to two hours tops, but it was unbelievably fulfilling. Honestly, I didn't know what the hell was going on half the time and the game gives you pretty much no real direction, but I think that made it even better.

I enjoyed the anonymous companion thing SO much more than I thought I would, and it had to be the best thing about the game. There was a particular point in the game where it was really apparent:



As for replay value, I'm not really sure that it provides much. I know that going through it again would not be anywhere near the same experience, but I do think that I could still enjoy it. Either way though, it's $15 Canadian, and that's not much more than it is to go to a movie theatre here. I know that I got a lot more out of this than pretty much any movie.

I definitely dig the art direction on that. I wish there were more games out there that looked so cool!

And it's kind of in-between a game and an "experience". It wasn't challenging at all, but you do have to kind of figure out how the mechanics work yourself and perform everything on your own as it doesn't really give you much guidance. It's probably more of a game than some of the other visceral experience games you hear about though.
