I think it's pretty overrated. I mean it was pretty fun and all but I played through it once havent played it since, worth a rent maybe but not a buy. And I got the bad ending, I mean you kill a few kids and that makes you a bad guy?

Don't have it yet.
I'm obviously not surprised by the less than steller reviews, but at least it's getting better reviews than the usual new Sonic game. It seems the new Sonic games are just decent, I'd still call that an improvement I guess. The main criticism behind Sonic Unleashed is the whole werewolf thing, which I knew would be retarded from the get go. Though I've read that the normal Sonic stages are excellent, and the game would have been a lot better without the werehog gimmick. This seems to be Sega's problem, because the same criticisms have been made of other recent Sega games like the NiGHTS sequel. They break away from the original formula and try to cram in too many new features that distract from what the game should be about. Now me personallly, I thought adding a lot of variety worked just fine for the Sonic Adventure games, and even if you don't like all the stuff they crammed in, at least in both of these games you can actually speed through a level, as Sonic, alone, without guns and not on freaking rails or any other added gimmicks. C'mon Sega, is it that hard? I will give Sega credit for this, at least they're having other developers handle the new Sonic games instead of just Sonic Team. They need to let Dimps develop all the Sonic games for now on, or hell, let Treasure make a Sonic game, that would be awesome. |

I'd love to see Rare make a sonic game.

Ehhhhhhh.
Sega already tried the fetch quest gimmick. Quote:
"Ok guys, I have a great idea for a Sonic game, lets take away Sonics speed, in fact lets make him slow as hell, put him in an isometric maze where he has to collect 3 keys, which he drops all the time because it's impossible for him not to get hit by something, he constantly has to pick them up over and over (and they disappear if he can't get to them in time), then he has to drag his slow ass to the impossible to reach door at the end of the maze to progress to the next stage, did I mention we should add as much sh*t as possible like bumpers and conveyor belts to make it f*cking impossible to even get to the other side of the room? Oh and add a time limit." Awful game. It's the worst Sonic game I've ever played. Yes, worse than Shadow the Hedgehog. |

Been playing Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse
Believe it or not, Mickey has been in some really underrated platformers for the Genesis and SNES. Case in point. Castle of Illusion is a great little platformer for the Genesis, the hit detection isn't perfect and the game overall is shorter than it should be. But I really like this game, surprisingly great graphics and music, especially for an early Genesis game. |

To go back to Sonic--
I read an interview where one of the people (maybe 1up?) aked one of the producers why don't they just go back to the roots, making it all sonic all the time. And the guy gives the reporter the exact speed and height of sonic, and tells him how much level they would have to make, and it's some ridicoulous amount of virtual mileage, that would still amount to an incredibly short game, and i have felt pity for sonic team and sega since hearing that interview. Its not like mario where you can get away with making a giant hill with blocks and people will enjoy it. I think the next sonic game should be downlodable exclusive to XBLA, PSN, and wii ware, and follow the vein of remakes like bionic commando and mega man, just with hd graphics. Everybody still likes the DS/GBA sonic games. |
