My favorite turn based game is probably Bowsers Inside Story. It's basically an evolution of Thousand Year Door's system.

i like the "strategy" quotient, picking which move and which spell/special power

with real-time, it's mostly hackenslash, which is fine if it's something as evolved as the system in Rogue Galaxy, and not as in Final Fantasy XII, where your victory will only surely depend on your level

With final fantasy I was planning my attacks strategically 10% of the time and spamming attack for the rest just to get the fight over with, but for me final fantasy was all about the story, the fighting just fleshed it out a bit and gave you something to do besides walking.

which Final Fantasy are you referring to?

i was talking about XII, which is real-time, but your victories often rest on your level, and i hated level-grinding

if you're talking about X, the combat is mesmerising, it was turn-based, and i had equal fun fighting and puzzle-solvin

Vii, Viii, X and X-2, Not many of the fights called for strategic planning, it was fun when you're up against bigger enemies and bosses.

If I'm powerful enough, I also eventually resort to button spamming just to get it over with. Killing an enemy in a Zelda typically take from an nth of a second to a few seconds. Killing an enemy in FF can take a few to several minutes.

It's not like retail expansion packs weren't becoming a defacto standard in the late 90s / early 2000s for any pc game that achieved a substantial level of success. Shifting the distribution to the net for quicker releases at lower price points than retail expansions just makes sense. Unfortunately there were some companies who were moronic with some of their DLC... like the first DLC released for Oblivion which added useless armor for their horses. WORTHLESS.

On the other hand the Rockband franchise is pretty much the picture perfect example of what DLC can be about. The core game is pretty simple, with a full disc of content, but then for anywhere between $0.99 and $1.99 you can get a full song and charts for all the instruments. Every week there are new releases from both the parent company and from fans through the Rockband Network. You damn well better believe I was happy to pay $5.99 for the Rush 2112 pack that came out 3 weeks ago.

Also, if either of you were actually paying attention to the position of the industry rather than your position as a consumer you'd note that the industry is actually very much moving toward free to play models with extra content being sold to whoever wants it. They finally realized you'll get way more than 10 people willing to pay $5 for various chunks of content than it is to convince 1 person to pay $50 for all the content.
Condescending as usual with your response, I see. Aren't you like 30 or something?

Anyways, you yourself pointed out my problem with DLC. So, uh, thanks for proving my point for me?

I agree.

I'd like to see what you're talking about here, are your referring to that new Modern Warfare 3 marketing strategy?

And what do you mean by 'free to pay models'? Last I checked, you're still paying $60 for the game. It's $60 by the way, not $50. You'd know this if you were actually paying attention to the industry.

So my fellow 360 owners, if this does come true would you guys stick with the Xbox 3 or switch over to the PS4 next gen?

Report: No Used Games on Next Xbox - Xbox360 News at IGN

I for one would switch over, no questions asked. Microsoft has to know how foolish a move this would be. I mean think about it, no loaning a game to a friend? No being able to rent a game first to determine whether it's worth buying or not?

Cross off getting the games years down the line either. If they did this for that gen, then imagine how hard it'd be to get a new copy of an old game after they've stopped producing it. It'd basically make it impossible to get old games (something I love doing, I still buy PS1/PS2 games on occasion).

Also, what happens if your Xbox dies? Are your games as good as useless on any new console you get?

Microsoft can't be this stupid.

It's probably the start of what happened to PC games in the middle of the last decade, a shift to straight digital distribution. Publishers did nothing but bitch and moan about how "used game sales where destroying the industry" and made controversial moves like making you buy a code to play the multiplayer in Dead Space 2 or buy new to play as Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City.

Still this is all just speculation, but the fact that Microsoft haven't spoken out against it does have me a little disquieted.

I would switch so fast it'd be crazy. Actually, I'll switch anyway just because the PS4 will probably have free online gaming. I don't really know why I went with the 360 in the first place, most likely just cause some of my other friends had. I guess it really depends on what my friends get though, but I'll try as hard as i can to convince them to go playstation.
