I don't really see the point of picking up Morrowind these days if you're new to Bethesda games and have a decent computer. Why not just play Skyrim like the rest of the world? In my opinion, it's easily as entertaining as Morrowind.

Earthbound : Attack of the Giygas on SNES
pretty weird and fun RPG, interesting scenario, wacky real-life things you can do coupled with psychic attack powers one of the best RPGs I've played it's actually "The War Against the Giygas" so addictive that i've been on it the whole morning

Morrowind's massively outdated, don't ge me wrong, but the narrative is quite easily the best one Bethesda have ever done, Vvardenfell is an amazing place to explore and it has far more freedom than Oblivion ever did. There's a lot more in terms of remotely interesting places to explore, the soundtrack's second only to Skyrim and in many ways the so-called broken skills and levelling system actually feels better than the more casual one introduced after it. The two main drawbacks are combat and graphics, although unlike in the two newer ES games there's no meat shield bosses to bore you to death and both of those problems can be fixed by the huge modding community anyway. Plus you get Indie cred for playing the most obscure of the three ES games that anyone's ever actually played.

I remember when Morrowind came out .. My friend had this awesome gaming rig that could run it. We thought the graphics were pretty awesome at the time (look at that water!). But while it was technically up to scratch, it just doesn't look that great, like there's something strange going on with the designers Now I just think of it as a sort of Bethesda hallmark.
When it comes to gaming creds, I'd think you could earn even more by playing Daggerfall which is also open-world and super massive. In fact, Morrowind is only 0.01% the size of Daggerfall which features a landscape of nearly half a million square kilometres. edit : If anyone likes nostalgic gaming and feel like checking out Daggerfall, Bethesda has made the game a free download. Check it out!
