Yeah I sometimes think game critics feel an obligation to ride Mario and Zelda's dicks cause they're the untouchable franchises or something.

Admittedly every mario and zelda game I`ve ever played has been addictive and fantastic. The only Mario game I wasn`t mad on was Super Mario Sunshine and I thought it was harder than it should be and the graphics of Mario etc were smaller than normal, but yer I know what you mean they always get like 95% or above!!!! same with the metal gear solid series as well.

Or perhaps Mario and Zelda games receive universal critical acclaim because, oh I don't know, they are typically excellent games?

I will post back with some impressions later on. Skyrim will have to take the back seat for now.

Blasphemy!

Isn't it not out for another 2 weeks though? Plenty of time for Skyrim.

It's pretty epic. I like it better than 4. There's a lot of newer features that are kind of similar to other Bethesda games. It works really well.

I never played an Elder Scrolls game, so this will probably be my chance considering how great people think it will be. Out of interest what do members find great about the Elder Scrolls series?

i've only played Morrowind - i find it too large and there's too many things to do, so i do tend to wander aimlessly in it

Immersion-- it's the most complete fantasy world outside of Lord of the Rings that I've yet experienced.

Well, other than the fact that Morrowind is the greatest game ever made? They're well known for their unintentionally hilarious bad points (Oblivion's terrible, terrible voice acting being a prime example) but they really just add to the spirit of the game. With Oblivion in particular, you can just play off the bat with no experience and wander doing whatever the hell you want for hours upon hours, with no true obligations or master beyond the map edges. I'm guessing Skyrim's the same, but guess who still doesn't have it?
